21st Appartement Overview

First Impressions

Walking into 21st Appartement feels like stepping into someone’s stylish city pad rather than a traditional hotel — and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it work so well. This four-star property sits right on Jürgensplatz in the Unterbilk district, and you know what struck me first? The building itself has this understated elegance that doesn’t scream “tourist hotel.” It’s the kind of place where you feel like a temporary local rather than just another visitor passing through Düsseldorf. The attention to detail in every corner creates an atmosphere that welcomes you as a guest who truly belongs.

Location & Neighborhood

Unterbilk is one of those neighborhoods that locals love but tourists often overlook — which actually works in your favor here. You’re close enough to the Rhine that evening walks become a natural routine, and the area has this lived-in quality with cafes and small shops that aren’t trying too hard to be trendy. I mean, couples consistently rate the location around 8.9, and after spending time here, I get why. It’s residential enough to feel authentic but connected enough that you’re not stuck in the middle of nowhere when you want to explore the city center. The neighborhood truly captures the essence of modern urban living.

The Apartment Experience

The room setup here is what really sets this place apart from your typical hotel stay. Each unit feels like a proper apartment — you’ve got space to actually live, not just sleep and shower. The kitchen isn’t some afterthought either; it’s properly equipped if you want to grab groceries from the local market and cook something simple. There’s something satisfying about making your morning coffee in your own temporary space rather than rushing down to a crowded hotel breakfast room. This thoughtful design transforms your stay into a genuine home away from home experience.

Practical Comforts

What I appreciated most was how thoughtfully everything’s arranged — the WiFi actually works reliably (which isn’t always a given), and there’s enough parking that you’re not circling the block if you’re driving. The building stays quiet even though you’re in the city, and the soundproofing is better than I expected. Small details matter when you’re trying to get a good night’s sleep, and they’ve clearly figured that out here. Every amenity has been selected with the guest’s comfort and convenience in mind.

Why Guests Love It

Recent guests consistently rate the location at 9.2, and after staying here, that number makes complete sense. It’s not just about being well-positioned on a map — it’s about feeling connected to how the city actually works. You can walk to the Rhine for morning runs, find proper German bakeries within a few blocks, and still reach the main tourist areas without much hassle. The whole setup gives you that rare combination of independence and comfort that makes you want to extend your stay just to settle in a bit more. This property truly understands what modern travelers seek.

  • Christmas Markets Dec 2023 – Carmel from Ireland – 14 December 2023 (10/10)

Stayed a week in Dec for Christmas markets. Very central … only a short walk to the centre. Markets great with lots of beautiful huts selling everything you need for Christmas and lots of food and drink. Apartment easy to find and keys collected without any trouble. Apartment clean and had everything we needed. Kitchen well fitted out.

What could be improved: Sofa bed OK for first couple of days but got a bit uncomfortable towards the end of the week. Glad to get back to my own bed. Note … if you are in Dusseldorf over weekend in Dec good idea to book restaurants Fri-Sun.for dinner in evening. Busy city.

  • All the things you need for a few days of vacation were available in the apartment. – Daan from Belgium – 8 November 2023 (10/10)

  • Comfortable place close to nice restaurants and pubs – Joanna from Poland – 10 June 2023 (9/10)

Very comfortable apartment, perfect for a short stay in the city. It had everything what we needed. The location was excellent, well connected by public transport, but still possible to walk to the city centre. It was very kind of the owner to offer his bike to use(we didn't do that in the end).

What could be improved: The place needs a bit more cleaning. There was dust everywhere, pieces of food (snacks) on the carpet.

  • Very good – Johanna from Sweden – 30 January 2023 (8/10)

Lovely little appartement at an quite location. Big TV, nice dekoration, coffee machine and a nice lite kitchen (no oven).

What could be improved: A bit long to the U-ban but there is a tram just in front of the house.
