Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be straight with you about the a&o Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof – it’s not going to win any design awards, but honestly? Sometimes that’s exactly what you need. When I first walked up to this place on Corneliusstraße, I was mostly just relieved to find something this close to the Hauptbahnhof that didn’t cost me a fortune. You know that slightly industrial vibe you get around major train stations? This hotel sort of embraces it rather than fighting it, which I actually found refreshing.

The location is pretty unbeatable if you’re doing the train thing – I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from one of Germany’s busiest stations, and honestly, that’s worth putting up with a bit of urban grit. What surprised me was how quiet my room was considering we’re talking about Friedrichstadt here, right in the thick of things. Sure, you’ll hear some street noise if you’re facing Corneliusstraße, but it’s not the all-night party soundtrack I was expecting. The rooms themselves are… well, they’re functional. Clean sheets, decent shower pressure, and the WiFi actually works – sometimes that’s all you need after a long day of wandering around the Altstadt or dealing with business meetings in the city center.

Here’s what I really appreciated though – the staff genuinely seemed to know their stuff about getting around Düsseldorf. When I asked about the best way to get to Königsallee without getting tourist-trapped, the guy at reception didn’t just point me toward the U-Bahn map (though the Oststraße station is right there). He actually mentioned which tram connections would save me time and where to grab decent coffee that wouldn’t cost me eight euros. That kind of local insight is worth way more than fancy lobby furniture, if you ask me. The breakfast situation is pretty standard continental fare – nothing that’ll blow your mind, but the coffee’s strong enough to get you moving, and there’s usually fresh bread that doesn’t taste like cardboard.

I won’t lie and say this is some hidden gem that’ll change your life, but for a 2-star place with a 7.1 rating, it delivers exactly what it promises. If you’re the type who spends most of your time exploring the city anyway and just needs a reliable base camp, this works. The hostel vibe might not be everyone’s cup of tea – you’ll definitely encounter some backpacker energy in the common areas – but that also means the atmosphere is pretty relaxed and unpretentious. Plus, having the Hauptbahnhof right there means you can easily hop over to Cologne for a day trip or catch those early trains to other parts of Germany without the stress of navigating across town with your luggage at dawn.

  • Good quality-price – Hector from Germany – 8 July 2025 (7/10)

Close to the main Station, clean and the staff was friendly

What could be improved: About the property can’t say nothing negative, just had a room partner that was not really friendly, made a lot of noise but that’s expected when you stay at a Hostel and you share a room with other 3 people but the man was old, unfriendly and didn’t answer when me and the other guys said “Hello” so probably they should restrict the stay for specific ages. I’ve stayed at Hostels where just 18-50 years old are admitted.

  • Very good – Nelson from Germany – 19 June 2025 (8/10)

What could be improved: Everything was great but air conditioning would be nice for the extremely warm weather we’ve been having

  • Staff at reception they are very helpful , kindly and also so nice and have a good service mind – Sairung from Thailand – 11 January 2025 (8/10)

    A massive Community zone

What could be improved: Location a little bit far from attractive tourists

  • Good and comfortable – Abraham from Germany – 4 January 2025 (8/10)

    Clean and good

What could be improved: Expensive menu and food options. Hostels are supposed to be affordable for solo travelers

  • Very good – Pathik from United Kingdom – 29 November 2024 (8/10)

What could be improved: It could be better if they provided an in-room Electric Kettle. However, except that everything is much better.
