The thing about Lohausen is that it’s got this perfect sweet spot vibe – you’re literally ten minutes from Düsseldorf Airport (I mean, you can actually hear the planes if you listen for them, but it’s more white noise than annoying), yet it feels completely removed from all that travel chaos. The apartment itself has this lived-in authenticity that’s refreshing, like staying at a friend’s place rather than some sterile corporate accommodation. The kitchen actually works – and I mean really works, not just a mini-fridge and hotplate situation – which saved me a fortune since eating out in Düsseldorf proper can get pricey fast. There’s a Rewe supermarket about a five-minute walk away on Flughafenstraße, and the staff there are surprisingly patient with tourists fumbling through German.

What really won me over was how the owner clearly gets what travelers actually need. Proper blackout curtains (crucial when you’re dealing with jet lag), decent water pressure in the shower, and – this might sound silly but hear me out – actual hangers in the closet, not those weird hotel ones you can’t remove. The WiFi doesn’t cut out every twenty minutes like some places, and there’s this little balcony where you can sit with morning coffee and watch the neighborhood wake up. Parking was straightforward too, which anyone who’s driven in German cities will appreciate. The S-Bahn connection into central Düsseldorf is about fifteen minutes once you get to the station, and honestly, after a day of sightseeing around the Altstadt or shopping on Königsallee, coming back to this quiet corner felt like a relief. I stayed during late spring when the weather was perfect for keeping windows open – you get these nice cross-breezes that make the whole place feel airy. The 9-star rating makes total sense when you consider you’re getting genuine local living experience rather than tourist-zone efficiency. It’s not luxury in the marble-bathroom sense, but it’s the kind of comfortable that makes you actually want to hang around rather than just crash and leave.
