Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Casa Arturo on Baumstraße – it’s tucked into this quiet residential stretch in Derendorf that feels more like you’re visiting someone’s stylish aunt than checking into a hotel. But you know what? That’s exactly what makes this place work so well.

The building itself has that understated German charm – clean lines, lots of natural light streaming through these generous windows, and whoever did the interior design actually gets it. I mean, it’s not trying to be flashy or Instagram-perfect, but everything just feels… right. The common areas have this lived-in warmth with carefully chosen furniture that looks like it belongs there, not like it was ordered from some hotel catalog. The staff genuinely seem to care about the place too, which you pick up on immediately – they’ll chat about the neighborhood without that rehearsed tourism spiel, and they actually remember your name after day one.

What really sold me on Casa Arturo though is how it sits in Derendorf. Look, most tourists never make it to this part of Düsseldorf, but that’s their loss. You’re a quick tram ride from the Altstadt when you want the classic Rhine experience, but step outside the hotel and you’re in this authentically local area where people actually live and work. There’s a fantastic bakery just two blocks down that does these incredible Sunday morning queues (get there early), and the whole stretch toward the harbor has been quietly transforming with these cool little galleries and cafes that haven’t hit the guidebooks yet. Parking’s not terrible either – which, if you’ve tried to park anywhere near the old town, you’ll appreciate.

The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid 3-star place, but with thoughtful touches that bump it up a notch. Good beds – and I’m picky about beds – decent shower pressure, and they’ve managed to soundproof things well enough that you’re not hearing every conversation in the hallway. I stayed during what turned out to be some kind of local festival weekend (complete with late-night street music), and I still slept fine. The WiFi actually works throughout the building, which seems basic but you’d be surprised how many places mess this up.

What strikes me most about Casa Arturo is that it feels like someone opened a hotel because they wanted to share this neighborhood with travelers, not because they saw a business opportunity. The 8.9 rating makes total sense once you spend a night or two there – it’s not revolutionary, but it nails all the things that actually matter when you’re exploring a city. You’ll end up walking places you wouldn’t have discovered otherwise, eating breakfast at that local bakery I mentioned, and probably extending your stay because Derendorf grows on you in this unexpected way. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you found something special, even though it’s been quietly doing its thing all along.

  Virtually everything. Good size for me and my three friends. Wonderfully quiet neighbourhood but not far from the hustle and bustle of the town via the tram
  and shops nearby for produce. Cute garden albeit we couldn’t spend much time there due the bad weather! The owner, while didn’t see them in person due to circumstances,
  was always a message away and very friendly and accommodating with any requests. We’ll try and definitely come back here when we visit Düsseldorf again.

  The apartment has 4 floors, in the basement you find washing and cleaning facilities, a nice ironing. Ground floor is a nice living room with a dining table and a fully equipped kitchen. First floor has two bedrooms, one double and one single bed, and an equipped bathroom. On the top floor there is an extra room with a double bed. They also have a nice little garden and a terrace with bbq. Perfect for families and friends, and because of the awesome location, it is also perfect for Messe and for business travelers. Pricewise this place is also unbeatable and the host was very kind, answered all our questions quickly. We would go back anytime. Highly recommended!

  Casa Arturo absolutely excelled our expectations. The place is beautifully done up, spacious, and tastefully decorated. It truly feels like a home away from home, with all the comforts you'd like to have – right down to the high-end kitchen appliances and a great selection of tea and coffee.
  
  We travelled for work, and were very happy to find a study within the property, plus ease of access to public transport. Interactions with the host were great throughout – very friendly, helpful, and great to get along with.

  What could be improved: The only critique we had was that at first, it wasn't clear how to access the property – but this minor issue was quickly resolved by a message to the host, who clarified everything within a matter of minutes.
