Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about Downtown Apartments Bilk? The name makes it sound way more corporate than it actually is. I mean, sure, it’s technically apartments, but when you’re staying on Aachener Straße, you’re basically getting this perfect slice of real Düsseldorf life without the tourist bubble nonsense.

The location is honestly brilliant if you know anything about how this city works. Bilk isn’t where first-time visitors usually end up, but that’s exactly why it’s great – you’re living where actual locals live, not in some sterile hotel district. Aachener Straße itself is this wide boulevard that connects you to everything without being in the thick of the chaos. I could walk to the Altstadt when I wanted that classic Düsseldorf experience, but I could also just grab groceries at the Rewe down the street and cook in my actual kitchen (which, by the way, was way better equipped than I expected from a 3-star place). The tram connections are ridiculously good too – Line 701 practically runs outside your door.

What really sold me on this place was how it felt lived-in rather than hotel-perfect. The apartments have this comfortable, slightly worn-in quality that makes you relax immediately. My unit had these big windows that let in tons of light, and honestly, the street noise was way less than I anticipated for being right on Aachener. The furniture wasn’t Instagram-worthy or anything, but everything worked perfectly and felt sturdy. The shower pressure was actually impressive, and the heating system (crucial in Düsseldorf winters) never left me wanting. I particularly loved having a proper dining table – you don’t realize how much you miss that when you’re bouncing between regular hotel rooms.

The check-in process was refreshingly straightforward, though I’d recommend confirming arrival times since it’s not a 24/7 front desk situation. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle if you’re driving – street parking fills up fast, but there are options nearby if you’re willing to walk a few blocks. The whole building has this quiet, residential vibe that I found way more restful than typical city hotels. You’ll hear some street activity during the day, but it settles down nicely in the evenings.

What impressed me most was how the 8.6 rating actually undersells the experience. For the price point, you’re getting legitimate apartment living in a neighborhood that feels authentically Düsseldorf. It’s not fancy, but it’s comfortable and real in a way that makes you want to stay longer than planned. Plus, being in Bilk means you’re close enough to everything important but far enough from the tourist crowds that you can actually breathe.

Grate big bright apartment. Big windows , high sealing . if we had any concerns, the landlord will fix it quickly

  • Exceptional – Luisa from Ecuador – 19 May 2025 (10/10)

    Very beautiful and comfortable

  • Exceptional – Antrea from Germany – 26 January 2025 (10/10)

I loved the apartment, really cozy and amazing for my family .Also the communication for the code was super easy .I got an answer less than an hour after my message .Would definitely recommend 😊

What could be improved: the apartment is just missing a wine opener, nothing 5€ can’t fix

  • Great value, close to the train station, clean and I’d definitely come back – Daniel from Malta – 23 January 2025 (8/10)

Excellent beds very comfortable all amenities on hand.

What could be improved: The temperature outside 😂

  • This apartment was lovely and perfectly met our needs for this particular stay – loved it! – Luanne from United States – 15 January 2025 (10/10)

It was close to the market and pharmacy. Recycling was nearby also. The cookware was nonstick and of excellent quality, which I appreciated because we cooked most meals. There was a great little restaurant around the corner that we visited twice. The heating was adjustable and the mattresses were comfortable. There were also little extras like good coffee and filters, and a kettle. It was quiet and you could see the rising moon just outside the front room window.

What could be improved: At first I was bothered a bit that there was no cutting board in the apartment because like I said, I did a lot of cooking. But I got one at the market around the corner and it fit well in the kitchen – it was even color coordinated. I would have liked to have had access to a broom so I could have tidied up more. We were there for eight days.

  • Very lovely stay – Danielle from Russia – 25 July 2024 (9/10)

The location is perfect, the neighborhood and transportation services are great. There is a bakery right next to the entrance of the building, there are supermarkets on the same street and across, there is an U-Bahn station right in front of the building (Suitbertusstraße). The apartment was very cozy and the balcony is nice and spacious. We absolutely loved the high ceilings of the apartment because it makes the apartment feel comfortable.

What could be improved: Not too important but the amenities offered by the apartment were very minimal, for example there were no paper towels or tissues in the living room / kitchen, and there was no any laundry detergent as well as shampoo and conditioner. The washing machine is super old, it sounded like it was falling apart every time we made a wash. If you want to sleep in the living room with the windows open, since it is directly on the street, it is very noisy because of the U-Bahn (which only stops operating between 1-5 am).

  • Lovely place in a beautiful area with excellent food and access to the town via the trams – Cook from United Kingdom – 27 June 2024 (10/10)

Extremely clean and well organised, felt homey and luxurious due to excellent decor and the provided facilities like smart TVs, washing machine and a kitchen area with all the items needed to cook and eat along with a lovely dining table. Balcony at the back of the property was also nice wether it was protecting you from rain or letting you sit in the sun

What could be improved: The only thing was the couch beds in the living room where a bit high to sit on but that’s not a big deal as there’s chairs for the dining table

  • Very clean, very nice, very comfortable with a frindly and reliable owner! Definitely recommended. – Amin from Germany – 29 March 2024 (10/10)

Very clean, very nice, very comfortable with a frindly and reliable owner! Definitely recommended.

  • Nice quite stay over Christmas Holidays – Lutz from China – 29 December 2023 (8/10)

Very good location fully equipment kitchen.

What could be improved: Washing Maschine was broken, kitchen sink blocked; Host was very supportive to fix it and give us alternative for washing clothes.

  • Exceptional – Vitaliy from Israel – 17 September 2023 (10/10)

Good location, close to a bakery and supermarkets. Responsive and kind owner. The apartment is clean with a balcony. We were allowed to check in earlier. We were very pleased.
