Downtown Apartments Bilk Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Downtown Apartments Bilk on Aachener Straße, you immediately get the sense this isn’t your typical hotel setup. It’s actually more like stepping into a well-designed residential building — which, honestly, is exactly what makes it work so well. The four-star property sits right in the heart of Bilk, and I mean that literally. You’re surrounded by local cafes, small shops, and that authentic German neighborhood vibe that most tourists never get to experience. The location puts you in the middle of daily life rather than isolated in a tourist bubble.
The Apartment Experience
Each apartment here feels like you’re borrowing a friend’s place rather than staying in a hotel room. The spaces are genuinely spacious — not that fake “European spacious” you sometimes get. I was surprised by how functional the kitchen setup was; you can actually cook a proper meal if you want to save some euros or just prefer eating in. The furnishings strike that sweet spot between modern and comfortable, though I’ll be honest, some units show a bit more wear than others. This residential approach means you get real living space, not just a place to sleep.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what I love about staying in Bilk — you’re close enough to Düsseldorf’s main attractions without dealing with the tourist crowds every time you step outside. The neighborhood has this lived-in quality that I find way more interesting than staying right in the city center. You know what’s really convenient? There’s parking available on-site, which anyone who’s tried to park in German city centers will appreciate. Plus, couples seem to really get the location (they rate it 8.5, which honestly makes sense when you see how walkable everything is). The tram connections are excellent for reaching other parts of the city.
Daily Life Here
The building doesn’t have a traditional hotel restaurant, but that’s actually part of the charm. You’re encouraged to explore the local dining scene, and trust me, there are some gems within walking distance. The staff operates more like helpful neighbors than formal hotel personnel — they’ll point you toward the good bakery or tell you which tram line gets you downtown fastest. It’s that kind of personal touch that makes the 8.6 rating feel about right. This approach creates a more authentic experience than typical hotel service.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it lets you live like a local for a few days. Recent guests have been rating the location at 8.9, and I get why — you’re not just visiting Düsseldorf, you’re actually staying in a real neighborhood. The apartments give you space to spread out, cook when you want to, and come and go without feeling like you’re constantly in “hotel mode.” It’s particularly great for longer stays or if you’re traveling with someone and want a bit more room to breathe than a standard hotel offers. The combination of comfort, space, and authentic neighborhood living makes this property stand out.

I loved the apartment, really cozy and amazing for my family .Also the communication for the code was super easy .I got an answer less than an hour after my message .Would definitely recommend 😊
What could be improved: the apartment is just missing a wine opener, nothing 5€ can’t fixGreat value, close to the train station, clean and I’d definitely come back – Daniel from Malta – 23 January 2025 (8/10)
Excellent beds very comfortable all amenities on hand.
What could be improved: The temperature outside 😂This apartment was lovely and perfectly met our needs for this particular stay – loved it! – Luanne from United States – 15 January 2025 (10/10)
It was close to the market and pharmacy. Recycling was nearby also. The cookware was nonstick and of excellent quality, which I appreciated because we cooked most meals. There was a great little restaurant around the corner that we visited twice. The heating was adjustable and the mattresses were comfortable. There were also little extras like good coffee and filters, and a kettle. It was quiet and you could see the rising moon just outside the front room window.
What could be improved: At first I was bothered a bit that there was no cutting board in the apartment because like I said, I did a lot of cooking. But I got one at the market around the corner and it fit well in the kitchen – it was even color coordinated. I would have liked to have had access to a broom so I could have tidied up more. We were there for eight days.Very lovely stay – Danielle from Russia – 25 July 2024 (9/10)
The location is perfect, the neighborhood and transportation services are great. There is a bakery right next to the entrance of the building, there are supermarkets on the same street and across, there is an U-Bahn station right in front of the building (Suitbertusstraße). The apartment was very cozy and the balcony is nice and spacious. We absolutely loved the high ceilings of the apartment because it makes the apartment feel comfortable.
What could be improved: Not too important but the amenities offered by the apartment were very minimal, for example there were no paper towels or tissues in the living room / kitchen, and there was no any laundry detergent as well as shampoo and conditioner. The washing machine is super old, it sounded like it was falling apart every time we made a wash. If you want to sleep in the living room with the windows open, since it is directly on the street, it is very noisy because of the U-Bahn (which only stops operating between 1-5 am).Lovely place in a beautiful area with excellent food and access to the town via the trams – Cook from United Kingdom – 27 June 2024 (10/10)
Extremely clean and well organised, felt homey and luxurious due to excellent decor and the provided facilities like smart TVs, washing machine and a kitchen area with all the items needed to cook and eat along with a lovely dining table. Balcony at the back of the property was also nice wether it was protecting you from rain or letting you sit in the sun
What could be improved: The only thing was the couch beds in the living room where a bit high to sit on but that’s not a big deal as there’s chairs for the dining tableVery clean, very nice, very comfortable with a frindly and reliable owner! Definitely recommended. – Amin from Germany – 29 March 2024 (10/10)
Very clean, very nice, very comfortable with a frindly and reliable owner! Definitely recommended.
Nice quite stay over Christmas Holidays – Lutz from China – 29 December 2023 (8/10)
Very good location fully equipment kitchen.
What could be improved: Washing Maschine was broken, kitchen sink blocked; Host was very supportive to fix it and give us alternative for washing clothes.Exceptional – Vitaliy from Israel – 17 September 2023 (10/10)
Good location, close to a bakery and supermarkets. Responsive and kind owner. The apartment is clean with a balcony. We were allowed to check in earlier. We were very pleased.
