Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Am Grenzgraben in Unterrath, I wasn’t expecting much. The area’s pretty residential and quiet, sort of tucked away from the main tourist spots, but that actually turned out to be one of the best things about this place. The duplex apartment sits in what feels like a proper German neighborhood where you hear kids playing in courtyards and smell someone’s dinner cooking through open windows in the evening.

The moment you walk into this 2-bedroom setup, you get why it’s got that 7.8 rating – it’s not trying to be fancy, but everything just works. The duplex layout means you’ve got real separation between the living areas downstairs and bedrooms up top, which honestly saved my sanity when traveling with family. But here’s the thing that really got me: that terrace and garden space. I mean, you’re maybe 15 minutes from the Messe (the big convention center), yet you’re sitting outside with your morning coffee listening to birds instead of traffic. The garden’s nothing fancy – some grass, a few shrubs – but there’s something really grounding about having that outdoor space when you’ve been stuck in meetings or wandering around the city all day.

What I didn’t expect was how well-connected this spot actually is. There’s a tram stop about a 5-minute walk away that’ll get you to the Altstadt in maybe 20 minutes, and if you’re here for trade shows or business stuff at the Messe, you’re golden – it’s practically next door. The neighborhood itself has this lived-in feel that you don’t get staying in the city center hotels. There’s a decent bakery around the corner (grab the pretzels, trust me), and a little Turkish place that does killer döner if you’re tired of hotel breakfast. Parking was never an issue, which – if you’ve tried to park anywhere near Düsseldorf’s center – you know is basically a miracle. The whole area gets pretty quiet after dark, so if you’re a light sleeper, you’ll actually get some rest here. Sure, it’s not going to wow you with marble lobbies or concierge service, but sometimes you just want a place that feels more like staying at a friend’s apartment than checking into another cookie-cutter hotel room.

  Had a decent amount of space for a family of five. Kitchen was great and well stocked. Totally separated area for the children to sleep in. Wi-fi was good. Hosts were very friendly and welcoming. Lidl and Netto for groceries was close enough to walk.
  
  What could be improved: The bathroom really needs some updating, but I expect this is planned as the hosts are updating the property. No family restaurants nearby. The furniture was not very comfortable to sit in for any length of time, although it sufficed. The blankets on the bed were a little on the small side, but I am 192 cm in height, so I would think it is ok for most people.

  Accoglienza eccezionale, ci siamo sentiti come a casa. Proprietario discreto e sorridente.
  Struttura dotata di ogni comfort: a nostra disposizione ciabatte, asciugamani, coperte in più, asciugacapelli, bagnoschiuma, shampoo, detergenti per le pulizie; in cucina: caffè, zucchero, sale, olio e tanto altro ancora.
  Sebbene il giardino confinasse con l'autostrada, prevaleva il canto degli uccellini. Magnifico!
  Una volta chiusi gli infissi nemmeno più un rumore. Posizione comoda e davvero rilassante.

  Die Lage war gut.
  
  What could be improved: Die Ferienwohnung war dreckig, der Fußboden und die ganze Küche haben geklebt. Die Bäder waren schimmlig. Die Ferienwohnung hat modrig und nach Schimmel gerochen. Wir haben für unser 1-jähriges Kind ein Babybett bestellt und bekamen eins, welches nicht höhenverstellbar war, mit einer alten Matratze ohne den eigentlichen Matratzenbezug (also nur der Kern) Diese war mit Flecken übersät, es gab kein Bettlaken oder Bettzeug für das Kind. Wir haben, dies natürlich nicht genutzt.
  Die Möbel sind teilweise auseinander gefallen.
  Wir sind nur in der Wohnung geblieben, mangels Alternativen in der näheren Umgebung, sonst hatten wir sofort gewechselt.
