You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to this place on Dirschauer Weg – honestly, the name “Düsseldorf – separates, privates Zimmer” sounds more like a rental listing than a proper hotel. But here’s the thing about Hassels that most visitors don’t realize: it’s actually one of those quiet residential pockets where locals live, not where tourists usually end up, and that turned out to be exactly what made this spot work.

The building itself is pretty straightforward – no fancy lobby or anything like that – but the rooms really are separate and private like they promise. I mean, you’re not dealing with paper-thin walls where you hear every conversation from next door, which honestly surprised me for a 3-star place. The setup feels more like you’re staying in someone’s well-maintained apartment than a traditional hotel room. Parking was straightforward too, which anyone who’s tried to navigate Düsseldorf’s city center with a car will appreciate. The whole area stays pretty quiet even during the day – you get the occasional dog walker or neighbor heading to the nearby Rewe, but it’s not one of those places where delivery trucks start rumbling past at 6 AM.

What I really liked was how it felt like staying in an actual German neighborhood. There’s this little bakery about a five-minute walk away where the bread smells incredible in the mornings, and you’re close enough to the S-Bahn connections that getting into the city center doesn’t become this whole production. The Hassels area isn’t going to win any beauty contests – it’s mostly residential blocks and practical shops – but there’s something refreshing about being somewhere that isn’t completely overrun with other travelers. Check-in was smooth, no drama, and the whole experience felt more personal than those big chain hotels where you’re just another room number. Look, it’s not luxury by any stretch, and if you’re expecting room service or a concierge, you’re in the wrong place. But for the price point and if you want somewhere clean, quiet, and genuinely local-feeling to crash while you explore Düsseldorf, this actually hits the spot. Plus, you’ll probably have some good stories about staying in Hassels instead of the touristy areas – most people I’ve met have never even heard of this part of the city.

  Nothing. Toilet was dirty and we decided not to take a shower or use the toilet.
  
  What could be improved: The owner is a bit stingy. He annoys you all the time texting you. Repeats everything atleast twice and we had to break conversations else we would’ve missed our bus.

  What could be improved: The room was full of the owner's property. It really looked more like a storeroom than a room to rent to guests.
  Since I did not feel at all comfortable, I only stayed there for one night, however I paid for 3 nights. The host did not refund me even though what he offered clearly did not meet the expectations of what was described in Booking.
  The host harassed me with text messages even after I left the apartment.
  A very bad experience. Places like this should be removed from a platform as reputable as Booking.

  Netter Gastgeber der direkt freundlich begrüßt hat. Zimmer sieht aus, wie auf den Fotos und ist sauber. Badezimmer auch in Ordnung.
  Im großen und ganzen kann man sich nicht beschweren. Für den Preis eine schöne Unterkunft. Mit der Busanbindung kommt man auch gut ins Stadtzentrum.

  Man schläft in einem gemütlichen Bett. Unweit weg vom Naturschutgebiet. Ruhige Lage, wenig Verkehr. Mit Ralf gab es das ein oder andere Schwätzchen über Gott und die Welt :-).
  Ralf schickt viele Mails über Dinge, die selbstverständlich sein sollten, es scheinbar aber nicht (mehr?) sind.
  
  What could be improved: Das Zimmer hat keinen Fernseher, den brauche ich aber auch nicht :-).
