Hotel Description

You know what? I was honestly skeptical when I first pulled up to Düsseldorfer Privatzimmer on Eifgenweg – it’s tucked away in Gerresheim, which isn’t exactly where most tourists think to stay in Düsseldorf. But that’s actually what makes this place so refreshing. The whole setup occupies the ground floor and first floor of what feels like a renovated residential building, and there’s something genuinely cozy about walking up to what could easily be your German friend’s house rather than some sterile hotel lobby.

The owners have done something really thoughtful here – they’ve created these private rooms that feel more like staying in a well-curated apartment than a typical hotel. I mean, you’re not going to find concierge service or a marble-clad reception desk, but honestly, you won’t miss it. Each room has its own personality (mine had these gorgeous hardwood floors that creaked just slightly when you walked barefoot to the bathroom at night), and the whole place has this lived-in authenticity that most boutique hotels spend a fortune trying to fake. The 8.3 rating makes total sense once you settle in – it’s not trying to be everything to everyone, but what it does, it does really well.

What I really appreciated was how this location actually works in your favor if you want to experience Düsseldorf like someone who lives there rather than just hitting the tourist spots. Gerresheim has this quiet, residential vibe during the day, but you’re still connected to the city center without dealing with all the foot traffic and late-night bar noise from the Altstadt. There’s decent street parking most of the time (which, let’s be honest, is kind of a miracle in any German city), and I found myself walking different routes each morning just because the neighborhood has these tree-lined streets that change completely depending on the season. The S-Bahn connections are solid when you do want to head into the busier parts of town, but I ended up spending more time than expected just wandering around locally – there’s a bakery about two blocks away that does this incredible sourdough, and the whole area has way more character than I was expecting. If you’re the type of traveler who gets energized by discovering a place that feels authentically local rather than designed for Instagram, this little spot is going to surprise you in the best possible way.

Reviews

  • Excellent location, friendly host – Jesie from Germany – 27 November 2024 (9/10)

Flexible check in time, very organised and helpful host.

What could be improved: We are still not used to the German pillows.

  • Superb – Samuel from France – 7 November 2023 (9/10)

We had a very friendly welcome, they were aware of very small details which is very nice to have. The room was comfortable.

What could be improved: It's far from the city centre

  • Good experience – Elisabet from Spain – 15 May 2023 (9/10)

Very good experience! The owner is very kind, he made an effort to explain the details and show me everything.
The little confusion about the room (which we first thought was another one) was of no importance 🙂
All the rooms are very well equipped, and the one I had with the big window overlooking the garden was very beautiful!
I love the garden of the house too.

What could be improved: I have no complaints. It's far from the center, but well connected by public transport.
For those who go by car, the owner can also provide it for you 🙂

  • Lovely homely stay – Manon from Netherlands – 25 September 2022 (9/10)

Very welcoming host, thank you for giving me a tour of the house and all that went with it.
I slept really well, it felt like a second cosy home.

What could be improved: Nothing. It was just a very enjoyable experience as a whole, even though I just stayed one night and had to get up early to catch a plane.

  • Good – Sofija_l from Iceland – 1 July 2025 (7/10)

Location in quiet neighbourhood, close to playgrounds, decent bus connections. Good value for money.

What could be improved: The room could have been cleaner. The garden with the swimming pool was not as openly available to us as we thought. I had to specifically ask about it and the host only reluctantly told us we could use it once he was out of the house.

Very nice hosts. They were very welcoming and friendly, willing to answer any questions we had. It was an ideal property for an overnight stay

What could be improved: The location wasn't ideal, but the bus stop wasn't too far away. We used taxis though due to it being a short stay
