Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Epic Location? The name actually makes sense – and I mean that in the best way possible. When you’re standing on Ritterstrasse in Düsseldorf’s Altstadt, you realize you’ve hit that sweet spot where you can walk to literally everything that matters. I’m talking about being steps away from the Rhine promenade where locals do their evening strolls, and honestly, about a three-minute walk to those legendary breweries everyone raves about (Uerige is practically around the corner, if you’re keeping track).

The hotel itself feels like someone took a really solid 4-star property and then had actual travelers fine-tune the details. Check-in was refreshingly smooth – none of that awkward hovering while they figure out their system. The rooms have this lived-in elegance that doesn’t feel stuffy, with windows that actually open (thank you!) and blackout curtains that work. I stayed on the third floor facing the street, and while you’ll hear some late-night chatter from people bar-hopping through the old town, it dies down by midnight most nights. The beds are legitimately comfortable – not just hotel-speak comfortable, but the kind where you actually sleep well and don’t wake up with that weird hotel bed back ache.

What really sells this place, though, is how it sits in the neighborhood. The Altstadt can feel touristy during the day, sure, but Epic Location is positioned just enough off the main drag that you feel like you’re staying where people actually live. There’s a little bakery two blocks down that opens at 6 AM – perfect if you’re dealing with jet lag or just love good German bread (and honestly, who doesn’t?). The staff seems to know the area genuinely well too; when I asked about getting to the Königsallee for some shopping, the desk clerk gave me walking directions that avoided the crowded main route and took me through this quiet residential street I never would have found otherwise. Parking is… well, it’s city center parking, so manage expectations, but they do have a garage arrangement that works if you really need to drive. Most people don’t though – the tram stops are everywhere, and walking is actually the best way to soak up the old town atmosphere anyway. That 9.3 rating feels earned rather than inflated, which says something in a world where every hotel claims to be exceptional.

Reviews

  • Epic apartment in an epic location. We hope to return one day. – Karen from United Kingdom – 30 July 2025 (10/10)

The location was as described epic, so close to the river and the bars and restaurants yet in a quieter street. The room was very spacious and the bed very comfortable. The room was also tastefully decorated. We received a warm welcome from David, as well as complimentary snacks and although we didn’t need to contact him during our stay we knew he was there to help if we did need him.

    What could be improved: Nothing.

  • Great stay close to Aldstadt – Karen from Australia – 24 March 2025 (9/10)

Spacious studio located at edge of Aldstadt. Close the local train station, beautiful promenade along Rhine River and all the restaurants and shops in the Aldstadt

What could be improved: There is a beautiful sweeping staircase of 22 steps to access the apartment. Testing for an older person with luggage. Fortunately Marcus took my suitcase up the stairs for me when I arrived.

  • Excellent location, excellent host – Lui from Australia – 24 February 2025 (10/10)

    Excellent location, excellent host

  • Exceptional – Emrah from Turkey – 28 January 2025 (10/10)

The name of this place is so correct, the location of the house is indeed epic. The room was very spacious and very clean. Everything was perfect. I will try to stay here everytime I am at Düsseldorf.

  • Charming apartment to visit the Düsseldorf old town and events at the fairgrounds. – Rod from Switzerland – 24 January 2025 (9/10)

Central enough to be close to the attractions of the old town but also quiet, next to parks to walk our dog and easily and safely bike to the fair of Boot Messe. Friendly welcome and helpful too, with storing our bikes for example. Well equipped kitchen with complimentary coffee. Super dog friendly!

What could be improved: It was a very cold January stay and upon arrival the apartment was cold. It would be nice to turn the heat on before arrival.
At night there are lights from the school which shine in and the curtains are too light and thin to block out the lights.

  • You should stay here. Perfect location in the Alstadt yet quiet enough to relax at night. – Charles from United States – 31 October 2024 (10/10)

Location was perfect. So close to the Altstadt, yet wonderfully quiet. Definitely appreciated having the little coffee bar and refrigerator. A microwave would have been nice to heat up leftovers and a little bistro set to sit and eat, but those are trivial complaints.

  • The host was just unbelievably kind and thoughtful, location is also super – Kseniia from Germany – 30 September 2024 (10/10)

Everything is there, apartment is in historical and very beautiful building in the heart of the city

  • Exceptional – Laurent from Switzerland – 10 September 2024 (10/10)

Everything, hosts were attentive to every detail.

  • A wonderful place with a great location and host – James from United Kingdom – 26 August 2024 (9/10)

First let us praise the host rep David. He met us, showed us around the apartment and even one day brought us some fresh milk. He made it clear that he and Epic were there to make our stay a pleasure. The apartment is beautiful and full of character with a bedroom, bathroom and kitchen roomy enough for a small breakfast table. It was very well equipped with high quality items and everything you could need in the kitchen including a coffee machine with coffee and tea supplied. It is also is perfectly located for getting around, seeing Düsseldorf and eating out or in. Right on the edge of the old town or Altstadt, yet tucked away down a side street, opposite a school, it is an oasis of quiet. Only a short distance from the river, surrounded by museums and spoilt for choice with restaurants of all stripes (noisy bustling Altstadt streets or calmer neighbourhood places across a range of cuisines) much is withing walking distance. The U-bahn (tube/subway) and great shopping are a ten minute walk away.

  • Great Host and Location. Would Recommend. – Dale from United Kingdom – 7 July 2024 (10/10)

Great location, close to tram & old town, David was a fantastic host, nothing was too much trouble for him, flat was a home from home….
