Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Fair & the City on Vennhauser Allee, I wasn’t expecting much. The Eller district isn’t exactly where tourists typically end up, and three-star hotels can be hit or miss. But man, sometimes you get pleasantly surprised.

The thing about this place is that it just works. You know what I mean? The lobby has this clean, modern vibe without trying too hard, and the staff actually seem to care about what they’re doing. I mean, a 9.6 rating doesn’t just happen by accident. The rooms are what you’d call thoughtfully designed – not huge, but every inch feels purposeful. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and there’s decent soundproofing, which matters because you’re on a fairly busy street. What really got me though was the attention to small details. Fresh towels that actually smell fresh, decent water pressure in the shower, and – this might sound weird – but the lighting is just right. Not too harsh, not too dim.

Here’s the thing about staying in Eller that most people don’t realize: you’re actually in a pretty sweet spot. Sure, it’s not the Altstadt with all the tourist crowds, but the S-Bahn connection is solid, and you can get to the city center in maybe 15 minutes. Plus, there’s this authentic neighborhood feel you won’t get staying near Königsallee. I stumbled across a great Turkish bakery just a few blocks down – the kind of place locals line up at on Sunday mornings. The hotel staff pointed me toward a couple of restaurants nearby that I never would’ve found otherwise, including this low-key Italian spot that honestly served better pasta than some places I’ve paid twice as much for in the old town.

What really sells me on Fair & the City is that it feels like someone put thought into the guest experience without getting all corporate about it. The breakfast setup is simple but good quality, the WiFi actually works throughout the building, and parking isn’t a nightmare – which, if you’ve ever tried to park in central Düsseldorf, you’ll appreciate. I also noticed they keep the common areas genuinely clean without that overwhelming chemical smell some hotels have. It’s those kinds of details that make you want to come back, you know? I’d definitely stay here again, especially considering the price point and that surprisingly high rating makes total sense once you’re actually there.

Reviews

  • We will come back, because everything was very pleasant and there was no better apartment nearby. – Marco from Switzerland – 10 August 2022 (10/10)

location was very close to the railway station (S-Bahn), a supermarket and also in walking distance (500m) to our venue.

What could be improved: I didn't like the slanted roof above my bedside. The bed could maybe moved to another wall of the room to avoid this obstacle, but it was not important during our short stay.

  • Amazing stay and everything we needed for a few days. – Kevin from United Kingdom – 19 June 2024 (10/10)
