First Impressions

When I first pulled up to Fair & the City, I’ll be honest — the name had me curious, and the location in Eller had me wondering what I’d find. This four-star hotel sits on Vennhauser Allee, which isn’t exactly the tourist center of Düsseldorf, but that actually turned out to be one of its biggest advantages. The building has this clean, modern look that feels fresh without trying too hard, and you know what really caught my attention? The parking situation — it’s completely free, which is honestly a game-changer in Germany where hotel parking usually costs a small fortune.

Location & Getting Around

Eller might not be on every tourist’s radar, but I actually loved staying in this quieter neighborhood. You’re about 15 minutes by tram from the Altstadt and Königsallee — close enough to hit the main sights but far enough away that you’re not dealing with crowds when you want to unwind. The area has this authentic, residential feel where you’ll see locals going about their daily lives rather than just other tourists. There’s a decent bakery just down the street, and I found myself grabbing coffee there most mornings before heading into the city center.

The Room Experience

My room was surprisingly spacious for a mid-range hotel, with large windows that let in plenty of natural light. The design strikes this nice balance between contemporary and comfortable — nothing too flashy, but everything feels well thought out. The bed was genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathroom had one of those rainfall showers that actually works properly. What I really appreciated were the little touches: good reading lights, plenty of outlets near the bed, and blackout curtains that actually block out light completely.

Dining & Amenities

The hotel’s restaurant serves solid international cuisine with some German favorites thrown in — nothing groundbreaking, but the quality is consistent and the portions are generous. I mean, after a long day exploring Düsseldorf’s museums or shopping districts, sometimes you just want a good schnitzel without having to venture out again. The staff here really knows their stuff too; they gave me some great recommendations for local spots that I never would have found on my own. The whole place has this relaxed vibe that makes it easy to strike up conversations with other guests.

Why Guests Love It

That 9.6 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here — it’s one of those places that just gets the basics right while adding thoughtful extras. Couples seem to particularly enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and the fact that you can easily explore Düsseldorf without feeling like you’re staying in a tourist bubble. The free parking alone probably saves you 15-20 euros per night compared to downtown hotels, and honestly, the quick tram connections mean you’re not sacrificing convenience for the quieter location. It’s the kind of place where you’ll sleep well, start your day relaxed, and actually look forward to coming back each evening.

  Auf den Zimmern waren Wasser und weitere Getränke als Willkommenstrunk.
  Wir konnten uns zum Schlafen auf 2 Zimmer aufteilen. Dabei war eine Schlafcouch.
  Parkplatz wurde extra für uns frei gemacht. Danke nochmal dafür.

  location was very close to the railway station (S-Bahn), a supermarket and also in walking distance (500m) to our venue.
  
  What could be improved: I didn't like the slanted roof above my bedside. The bed could maybe moved to another wall of the room to avoid this obstacle, but it was not important during our short stay.
