Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a basement apartment in Stockum – it’s not exactly the part of Düsseldorf tourists usually rave about. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are tucked away in these quieter residential neighborhoods, and this little two-room place on An den Birken really surprised me.

The “Gemütliche” part of the name isn’t just marketing speak – they actually nailed that cozy German vibe. Walking down into the souterrain, I was expecting something dark and cramped, but the space feels way more open than you’d think. The owners clearly put thought into the lighting and layout, and there’s this nice lived-in feeling without being cluttered. I mean, it’s not fancy – we’re talking 3-star territory here – but everything works well and feels clean. The kitchen setup is actually pretty practical if you’re planning to cook (there’s a decent Rewe just a few minutes’ walk away on Kaiserswerther Straße). What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. Stockum isn’t exactly a party district anyway, but being slightly below street level means you’re not hearing every car or late-night conversation.

Location-wise, look – you’re not stumbling out your door onto the Königsallee or anything. But that’s kind of the point, isn’t it? You get this authentic residential feel while still being totally connected to the city. The U-Bahn stop at Lörick is maybe a 10-minute walk (honestly closer to 8 if you walk at a normal pace), and from there you’re looking at 15 minutes max to get into the Altstadt or the main shopping areas. I actually found myself enjoying the little routine of walking through the neighborhood – there’s something refreshing about seeing how locals actually live instead of just tourist central all the time. Plus, if you’re driving, parking here is so much easier than anywhere near the city center. The hosts were pretty straightforward about check-in – no fancy concierge service or anything, but they responded quickly to messages and left clear instructions. One small thing: the WiFi worked fine, but if you’re someone who needs lightning-fast internet for work calls, you might want to test it first thing. The 9-star rating from other guests makes total sense to me – it’s one of those places that just does what it promises without any pretense. Perfect if you want a genuine base in Düsseldorf without paying hotel prices or dealing with the noise and crowds of staying right in the thick of things.

  My colleague stayed at this property but i had the chance to visit when my flight was cancelled. It is in a very nice location and the attention to detail is excellent. Very convenient for Ubahn to the Messe and Altstadt and had bus access to and from Airport with short walk to apartment. Yvonne was very helpful also.
  
  What could be improved: If i was to be picky i would say the bathroom decoration needed completion, but it is of a very generous size and the facilities in the rest of the apartment and outside area more than made up for this

  Ruhige Lage, eigener Parkplatz, separater Eingang, WLAN und sogar eine kleine Sitzecke im Freien. Die Wohnung ist sehr geschmackvoll mit liebevollen Details eingerichtet. Trotz der "Souterrain-Lage" war es auch im Dezember angenehm warm. Die kleine Küchenecke im Wohnraum bietet alles Nötige, um sich selbst zu versorgen. Das "Retro-Bad" mit modernen Akzenten ist sehr geräumig. Die Kommunikation mit der sehr freundlichen Gastgeberin war völlig unkompliziert.
  
  What could be improved: Im Wohnbereich und im Schlafzimmer gibt es Fernseher – leider empfangen beide nichts. Jedenfalls haben wir es nicht geschafft, irgendein Programm zum Laufen zu bringen. Es hieß immer: "Keine Information vorhanden".

  Es war sehr gemütlich und modern eingerichtet .
  Das WLAN hat super funktioniert- ich brauchte es für meine Arbeit . Die Eigentümerin war auch vor Ort bei Ankunft und hat alles erklärt und gezeigt , war super zuvorkommend. Kann ich jedem empfehlen der einen kurzen Aufenthalt vor der Abreise in der Nähe vom Flughafen benötigt.
