Hotel Description
You know what? I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Düsseldorf, but Glück in Benrath is honestly one of those finds that makes you feel a bit smug about discovering something special. It’s tucked away on Humperdinckstraße – and yes, that’s really the street name, like the composer – in this quiet residential part of Benrath that most tourists never see. The thing is, Benrath isn’t exactly where you’d expect to find a boutique hotel, but that’s sort of the whole point.
The place doesn’t have an official star rating, which initially made me a bit nervous when I booked it, but within five minutes of walking in, I got it. They’re doing their own thing here, and they’re doing it really well. The owner clearly put thought into every single detail – I’m talking about things like the way the morning light hits the breakfast area, or how they’ve managed to soundproof the rooms so well that you forget you’re actually pretty close to the S-Bahn line. The design feels authentically German but not in that heavy, traditional way – more like if someone’s stylish German aunt decided to open a small hotel and had impeccable taste.
What really sold me was the location, though it took me a day to fully appreciate it. You’re literally a ten-minute walk from Schloss Benrath, which is this stunning baroque palace that even a lot of Düsseldorf locals don’t visit enough. But here’s the insider bit – there’s this lovely path along the palace gardens that connects to the Rhine, perfect for morning runs or evening walks. The S21 station is close enough that getting into central Düsseldorf takes maybe 20 minutes, but honestly? I found myself wanting to stay in Benrath more than I expected. There’s something refreshing about ending your day somewhere that feels residential and real, rather than in the middle of tourist central.
The breakfast deserves its own mention – they source locally, and I mean actually locally, not just “regional German products.” The bread comes from a bakery two streets over that’s been there since the 1950s, and the coffee is from this small roastery in Düsseldorf that the owner apparently discovered and fell in love with. Small touches, but they add up. The rooms themselves are what you’d hope for – clean lines, comfortable beds, and those little unexpected details like really good reading lights and USB ports in places that actually make sense.
I’ll be honest, if you’re the type who needs to be stumbling distance from Königsallee or the old town, this might not be your spot. But if you appreciate finding places that locals would actually recommend to their friends visiting from out of town – places with personality that don’t feel like they came from a corporate hotel handbook – then Glück in Benrath is exactly what you’re looking for. Plus, parking is actually manageable here, which anyone who’s driven in central Düsseldorf will tell you is worth its weight in gold.

Nice friendly place
What could be improved: I was not anticipating a room in a house which is what this is. I thought this was more of a hostel. Perhaps my mistake

Shower has no rain curtainA wonderful BnB with great view and cats! – Lisa from Netherlands – 22 January 2024 (8/10)
I loved the host, she was very kind and welcoming! It was clear were everything was and everything was accounted for (acces to a kitchen/fridge, coffee and tea, shower toilet etc.). The room we were in was really big, and had a beautiful view of the garden and roof terrace. It was also clean. There are also 2 cats in the house who we let into the room, they were adorable! 🥰 Laid on our bed for hours (if you don't let them in they of course won't enter the room ;))
What could be improved: Slightly annoying that the toilet is away from the room and in the hallway of the house. For the smaller 1 person room downstairs you even need to go all the way upstairs for acces to a toilet and the bath. The blankets and pillows were also really light, but that's just preference/what you're used to.Fabulous – Paul from United Kingdom – 10 October 2023 (9/10)
The owner is very hospitable and welcoming!
What could be improved: Nothing reallyhome stay in Duesseldorf – Yee from Hong Kong – 26 October 2024 (10/10)
it is like staying at someone's home–it is a real home which provide everything you need. everywhere is very clean. even there are 2 cats but i didnt see any visible cats' hair. quiet neighbourhood.
What could be improved: it is located 5 min by train from the city center, but takes into account that trains/ public transportation always delayed. so the location is not the most conniventVery lovely and welcoming host and house which I'd love to visit again – Antje from Germany – 6 July 2024 (10/10)
I had the pleasure of spending a night in this private house in a beautiful quiet road off the beaten track, yet close to Benrath center. My host welcomed me very nicely, explained things, offered information and gave practical support in such a friendly manner – I immediately felt at home.
My room was just as described, fresh and bright, with access to the kitchen, and all the facilities were sparkly clean and well-looked after. I was able to park in the street.
Thank you so much for giving me an enjoyable time out!
