Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to the Holiday Inn Express on E-Plus-Straße, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s tucked away in Lichtenbroich, which honestly isn’t the most glamorous neighborhood in Düsseldorf, but you know what? That turned out to be exactly why this place works so well.

The thing about staying near the airport is you’re usually sacrificing everything for convenience, but this HIE actually gets the balance right. Yeah, you’ll hear planes if you’re really listening, but it’s not that constant roar you’d expect – more like a distant hum that honestly became kind of soothing after the first night. The rooms are what you’d call reliably comfortable rather than fancy, but the beds are genuinely good (I’m picky about this stuff), and whoever designed the bathrooms actually thought about where you’d want to hang your towel. Small thing, but it matters when you’re dealing with early flights and quick turnarounds.

What really surprised me was how well-connected everything is from here. The S-Bahn situation is actually pretty solid – you can get into the city center without the whole airport shuttle dance, and if you’re driving, the A52 is right there without having to navigate through residential streets. The staff seems to get that most people are either coming or going somewhere else, so check-in is refreshingly efficient without feeling rushed. I mean, the front desk guy actually remembered I had an early flight and made sure I knew about their grab-and-go breakfast setup. Speaking of which – the breakfast is typical HIE fare, nothing groundbreaking, but the coffee is decent and they keep it stocked even during the early morning rush when half the hotel is trying to catch 7 AM flights.

The neighborhood itself is sort of this quiet business district vibe – not much happening after dark, but there’s a decent Turkish place about a five-minute walk away if you need real food, and a small grocery store that stays open later than you’d think. Parking is free, which honestly feels like a minor miracle these days, especially this close to DUS. The 8.7 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be something it’s not, but it does what it promises really well. If you need to be near the airport but don’t want to feel completely disconnected from actual Düsseldorf, this spot hits that sweet spot.

  You can walk to the hotel on a footpath from the train station. The kitchen was open until late, which allowed us to get dinner despite our quite late arrival time.
