Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be straight with you about the Holiday Inn Express near Düsseldorf’s Hauptbahnhof – it’s one of those places that just works, you know? When I first walked up to it on Moskauer Strasse, I honestly wasn’t expecting much. The Oberbilk neighborhood isn’t exactly the postcard part of Düsseldorf, but that’s actually what I ended up liking about it. You’re right in the thick of things without paying those crazy Altstadt prices, and the train station is literally a five-minute walk away (I timed it because I’m neurotic like that).

The building itself has that clean, no-nonsense Holiday Inn Express vibe – nothing fancy, but everything works properly. Check-in was refreshingly quick, which I really appreciated after dragging my luggage through the station. The lobby smells like that generic hotel cleaning product, but in a good way, if that makes sense. What surprised me was how quiet my room was, considering you’re so close to one of Germany’s busiest train stations. I mean, you can hear the occasional tram if you really listen, but it’s not the kind of noise that’ll keep you up at night. The rooms are compact but smartly laid out – typical German efficiency, really. The bed was actually comfortable (sometimes these chain hotels skimp on mattresses), and the shower had proper water pressure, which honestly matters more to me than fancy toiletries.

Here’s what I really appreciated though – the breakfast situation is solid. Not mind-blowing, but they do that continental spread well, and the coffee doesn’t taste like it’s been sitting around since yesterday. Plus, if you’re planning to explore the city, you’re perfectly positioned. The U-Bahn connections from Hauptbahnhof can get you to the Rhine promenade in about ten minutes, or if you’re feeling ambitious, it’s actually a decent walk through some interesting neighborhoods you wouldn’t normally see as a tourist. I stumbled across this great little Turkish bakery just around the corner on Graf-Adolf-Strasse – the kind of local gem you only find when you’re staying somewhere real people actually live and work. The staff seemed genuinely helpful too, not just going through the motions, which can be hit or miss with chain hotels. One of the front desk guys gave me actual useful directions to avoid the construction mess they had going on near the Königsallee at the time. That 8.2 rating feels about right – it’s not going to wow you with luxury, but it delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need when you’re trying to see a city rather than just hang out in your hotel room.

  • Good – Terēza from Latvia – 25 July 2025 (7/10)

    Clean and comfortable

What could be improved: It was written that there is parking place, but it wasn’t. It took a lot of time to find place.
When I checked about parking later, in booking was written that they provide garage, 19 eur per night. On website it was said that 30 eur per night but girl on reception said 40 eur per night

  • Breakfast needs changes but everything else is outstanding – Bella from United Kingdom – 12 July 2025 (8/10)

The price, rooms and cleanliness is outstanding

What could be improved: Unfortunately the breakfast is reflecting the price of the rooms. There was no fresh cut fruit or any lactose free product..

  • Bigger-sized rooms for a Holiday Inn Express with very Comfy Beds and close to the train station – John from United States – 11 July 2025 (7/10)

The location is good, but only because the Hauptbahnhof (main train station) is a 10–15 minute walk from this hotel. However, the hotel entrance and exit (the only door you can use) stands in front of an empty lot that is completely overgrown with weeds and litter (really disgusting how guests and people around the neighborhood litter !), so this creates a terrible (in my opinion) first impression of the hotel. Also, I think that there are so many smokers who simply light up right in front of the entrance, not respecting any distances that should be in place. Many times during my 2-week stay, I could hardly get through the crowd to exit the hotel on my way out for the day.. I really enjoyed the mattress and pillows which were very comfortable.
One final point, there was one young man at réception whose name is Anar. He was always helpful to me whenever I had a request and listened to any complaints I may have had. I hope that management appreciates his efforts since he was the only one there at réception who stood out to me !

What could be improved: Even though I did appreciate being given an upgrade to a bigger room (with small fridge), there was no towel rack anywhere in the very small bathroom. That’s a rather minor complaint, though, considering I did receive more space and a better view (overlooking a park area) than I had in the regular room on my first night. Also, the wifi on my iPad went out almost each day of my stay, so it was annoying to have to keep re-connecting.
Also, right during my final 4 nights, the hotel was very busy checking in literally hundreds of guests for some kind of convention, so breakfast was much too crowded on these mornings and with no availability of service at their lobby bar since they couldn’t handle too many orders.

  • A Nice One Night Stay. – Eric from United States – 10 July 2025 (9/10)

A nice modern Holiday Inn. The free German style buffet breakfast had a wide variety of items.

What could be improved: It is very close to the train station but not much else.
