You know what caught me off guard about the Holiday Inn niu Seven? It’s actually got personality – which, let’s be honest, isn’t something you expect from a chain hotel tucked away in Gerresheim. I mean, when you first pull up to Heyestrasse, you’re thinking this is just another business district spot, but the whole niu concept is sort of refreshing. They’ve stripped away the stuffy hotel lobby nonsense and gone for this clean, almost minimalist vibe that feels more like a boutique place than your typical Holiday Inn.

The location grows on you once you figure out the rhythm of the area. Sure, you’re not stumbling out your door into the Altstadt, but honestly? That worked in my favor. Gerresheim has this authentic neighborhood feel – you’ve got actual locals grabbing coffee at the bakery down the street instead of tourist crowds everywhere. The S-Bahn connection into central Düsseldorf is dead simple once you walk the route to Gerresheim station a couple times, and parking here doesn’t make you want to cry like it does in the city center. I actually enjoyed the evening walks through the residential streets – there’s something calming about it after spending your days dealing with trade fair chaos or business meetings.

What really sold me on this place was the staff’s approach. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward (no fake smiles or over-the-top hospitality theater), and when I mentioned I was trying to find a decent restaurant that wasn’t tourist-focused, the front desk guy actually knew what he was talking about. The rooms themselves hit that sweet spot between modern and practical – good shower pressure, beds that don’t feel like cardboard, and honestly, the soundproofing is better than I expected for a 3-star place. You’re not hearing every conversation in the hallway or getting woken up by the elevator. The whole niu design concept strips things down to what you actually need without feeling cheap about it. I mean, you’re not getting marble bathrooms or fancy room service, but the WiFi works perfectly, there’s proper lighting for getting work done, and the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a jet engine. For what you’re paying – especially compared to what hotels closer to the Königsallee will cost you – it’s honestly solid value. The 8.3 rating makes sense when you consider it’s doing exactly what it promises without any pretense.

  Everything else is good.
  
  What could be improved: The garage will only open with room card. That means parking in the garage is not possible before checkin. I parked on the street and got a penalty ticket.

  It was an easy commute by train to Dusseldorf centre, although some trains had been cancelled which was inconvenient.
  
  What could be improved: There was a little confusion re: our payment as they had recently changed payment systems. Despite checking on several occasions that all was in order this was still queried on checkout causing delays and a little embarrassment. However, in general it was an excellent stay and the staff were lovely to deal with..

  Located right next to the train station and tram stop. Very clean, comfortable and pleasing to the eye. The staff is friendly and helpful. Despite being nearby a busy traffic intersection it's very quiet inside, the sound isolation is very good. The built-in Bluetooth speaker in the room – absolutely fantastic addition, thank you!
  
  What could be improved: It is no fault of the hotel however there are no food places or product stores in direct proximity, the closest ones are either on the opposite side of train station or further into the city. The hotel's store at the reception offers instant noodles, but the room had no kettle, that's just weird. Last, but not least, there were no good tv channels – I'm not sure if anyone needs five news channels in french, on the other hand Comedy Central, History and Discovery would be great
