Hotel Am Ehrenhof Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel Am Ehrenhof on Fischerstraße, you immediately get the sense that this place knows what it’s doing. The building has that understated German elegance — nothing flashy, but everything feels deliberate and well-maintained. I mean, when couples are rating the location 9.2 out of 10, you know you’re onto something good. This four-star property sits right in Pempelfort, which honestly feels like one of Düsseldorf’s best-kept secrets for visitors who want to be close to everything without the tourist chaos.
The Pempelfort Advantage
Here’s what I love about this location — you’re actually in the best-rated area of Düsseldorf according to guest feedback, with a location score of 8.9. Pempelfort gives you this perfect balance where you can walk to the Altstadt (Old Town) in about 15 minutes, but you’re staying in a quieter, more residential neighborhood. The Ehrenhof complex nearby houses some of the city’s top museums, and there’s something really nice about being able to stroll over to the Kunstpalast or NRW-Forum without dealing with crowds. You know what? The whole area just feels more authentic than staying right in the tourist center.
Room Experience
The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d expect from a solid four-star German hotel — clean lines, quality furnishings, and everything actually works properly. Nothing groundbreaking, but there’s real comfort in knowing your shower will have good water pressure and your bed won’t leave you with a sore back. The windows are well-insulated too, which matters more than you’d think when you’re trying to sleep in a city. I appreciated the attention to practical details — decent lighting for reading, enough outlets where you need them, and storage that makes sense for a week-long stay.
Morning Fuel
Breakfast here is the continental buffet style, and they do it properly. I’m talking fresh bread (this is Germany, after all), quality cold cuts, and coffee that doesn’t taste like it’s been sitting around since yesterday. The buffet setup means you can grab something quick if you’re rushing off to meetings, or take your time if you’re on vacation. What I really noticed was how they keep everything well-stocked throughout the morning service — there’s nothing worse than showing up to picked-over pastries and empty coffee dispensers.
Why Guests Love It
Look, Hotel Am Ehrenhof isn’t trying to be the flashiest place in Düsseldorf, and that’s exactly why it works so well. You get reliable comfort in a genuinely great location without paying premium prices for unnecessary frills. The fact that couples consistently rate this place so highly tells you something — when you’re traveling with someone else, you notice things like noise levels, neighborhood safety, and whether you can easily find good dinner spots nearby. All of those boxes get checked here. It’s the kind of place where you’ll sleep well, start your day properly, and spend your time exploring the city instead of dealing with hotel headaches.
The concierge service in Dusseldorf can arrange exclusive tours of luxury fashion boutiques, secure reservations at Michelin-starred restaurants, and organize personalized visits to world-class art museums and the scenic Rhine promenade.

Reviews of Hotel Am Ehrenhof
Very good – Lorenzo from Italy – 28 April 2025 (8/10)
Good value for the price paid, recommended
What could be improved: Neighbors a bit loudFor the price perfectly fine & v. friendly but don't expect hotel amenities. – Alice from Germany – 24 April 2025 (7/10)
Location was close to everything. Very friendly welcome by staff member. She really tried to make you as comfortable as possible. Very clean. Super shower. Comfy chairs. Comfy bed. Made effort for breakfast. Reasonable price.
What could be improved: At rather loud street, so windows open not really helpful but room was rather warm despite heating off. Room next to reception, bit loud in the afternoon with doorbell going, at night fine. My room facing the street on the ground floor, so curtains closed…Breakfast was a bit hit and miss. Lots of mortadella and cheese but only the one sort each. No water or juices or eggs, one sort of packed bread. But for the price absolutely adequate. Six euros. You have to reserve the breakfast and help yourself in the morning which was fine.Clean and friendly – Mariana from Germany – 31 July 2024 (9/10)
It was very clean.
We did not get a 3-bed room, but instead it was solved fast and got 2 rooms next to one another: a double and a single one.
There is a parking garage 2 streets behind.
What could be improved: The neighbourhood was a little “strange”.Affordable comfort with no frills – Emily from Australia – 28 May 2024 (6/10)
The hotel was clean, relatively comfortable, and affordable. No frills or special facilities, just a nice place to keep your stuff and rest your head. Breakfast was included, but was basic. Close to a couple of restaurants, and a petrol station if you need food. Within walking distance of train station. Reliable, fast wifi connection. Staff were friendly.
What could be improved: Only one light in the room so it was a little dark. Double bed is just two single beds pushed together, and a separate blanket each. Elevator is very small (will fit one person with a bag at a time). Bathroom is on the smaller side, but had decent water pressure.Good stay in Düsseldorf – Carina from United States – 11 April 2024 (8/10)
We had a great stay at the hotel. The lady that checked us in was very sweet and friendly and made sure we had everything we needed.
The beds were comfortable and the room was clean.
Location is great too, walking distance to a lot of things you want to see in Düsseldorf.
What could be improved: NothingRoom was okay, location is very close to city center, prices are reasonable. – Frank from Germany – 23 March 2024 (7/10)
There wa no breakfast unfortunately
What could be improved: Nobody was present for the check-out, So we just left the keys on the counter and paid by Money transfer later.Between close-by public transport and a very comfortable room, we had a great "home away from home". – Thomas from Netherlands – 10 December 2023 (9/10)
We were in Düsseldorf for the Kristkindlmarkt, staying from Friday evening through Sunday morning. Hotel "Am Ehrenhof" offered affordable rates, despite being close to the Aldstadt / city center.
Breakfast is not included with your stay; you will need to pay additional per person. In our case €9 per person. Breakfast was of good quality: very freshly baked bread, a charcuterie selection, yogurts and breakfast grains. No full continental, which is perfect for us.
The hotel does NOT have its own parking. There are a few parking garages close by. B+B Parking is the closest, and a Park One is about 15-20 minutes walking.
There is no manned front desk, the hotel is small and intimate. We had a language barrier with the on-site host (who spoke little German or English), but we managed just fine. They were the friendliest folks we've met in Düsseldorf! 🙂
Our room was perfectly suited for two adults traveling with a teenager. Room 16 actually consists of two rooms, with an adjoining bath room. One bedroom has a double bed, the other a single bed. This offered our teenager privacy. Both rooms looked a bit old fashioned, but they were very clean and the amenities were good! Both rooms had a wash basin and the bathroom with shower looked modern.
We were only there for a short while, so we didn't find many restaurants. There's a handful within walking distance. On Nordstraße you will also find a Réwé supermarket.
The city center is about 30 minutes walking from the hotel. You will find both a subway (U-bahn) and a streetcar (Strassenbahn) stop within 2 minutes walking on Nordstraße. With either of those, it's only a few short minutes ride into the center.
What could be improved: Honestly, nothing.
Even the language barrier with the staff (who spoke little German or English) was not a problem, thanks to translation apps, friendly smiles, and a mix of three languages.
It was hard to find a nice restaurant in the direct vicinity, but that's not the hotel's fault.Great location, helpful staff member but bedroom needs to be brought up to XXI century – Marcin from United Kingdom – 13 November 2023 (6/10)
Very helpful gentleman at reception. Martin if I’m right. He has helped me to get to the hotel, as I’ve never been in Dusseldorf nor I speak any German.
Great location – few minutes walk to the Old Town
Nordstrasse underground stop nearby
What could be improved: Bathroom could be cleaner – limescale on the shower door and shower tap hasn’t been removed for a while.
Very comfy mattress but the pillow could be better quality.
Bedroom needs some uplift as it’s straight from 90s’Perfect stay for a few days Duesseldorf. – Maaike from Netherlands – 5 September 2023 (9/10)
Perfect location, almost next to Strassebahn, U-bahn, a few minutes on foot from Nordstrasse, the Rhine, museums, restaurants. Staff very helpful in taking in luggage before check-in time.
What could be improved: nothingEvery thing was very good. – Adele from South Africa – 28 March 2023 (7/10)
Everything is very clean and comfortable. Nothing to complain about.
What could be improved: Everything was as expected. Nothing to complain about
