Hotel Famosa Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Hotel Famosa, you immediately get that classic European city hotel vibe — nothing flashy, but everything feels solid and well-maintained. The lobby’s got this understated charm that I actually prefer over some of the more pretentious places I’ve stayed. It’s a three-star property, but honestly, they’ve done a good job making it feel more upscale than you’d expect from the rating. The staff greeted me in both German and English, which was a nice touch since my German is, well, pretty terrible.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s where Hotel Famosa really shines — the location is absolutely spot-on. You’re right in Stadtmitte on Kölnerstraße, which means you can walk to pretty much everything worth seeing in Düsseldorf. The Königsallee shopping district is literally a few minutes away, and I found myself strolling to the old town (Altstadt) for dinner without even thinking about it. What I loved most was being able to grab morning coffee from one of those little German bakeries right around the corner — you know, the kind where locals actually go, not just tourists.
The Room Experience
My room was compact but thoughtfully designed, which seems to be the European way of doing things. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, and I slept better than I expected given that we’re talking about a city center location. The bathroom was modern and clean — nothing fancy, but the shower had good pressure and hot water, which is honestly all I really care about after a long day of sightseeing. There’s decent soundproofing too, though you’ll still hear some street noise if you’re a light sleeper.
Breakfast & Dining
The breakfast setup is pretty standard continental fare with a buffet spread, but they do it well. Fresh bread (this is Germany, after all), decent coffee, and a good selection of cold cuts and cheeses. I mean, it’s not going to blow your mind, but it definitely sets you up for a day of exploring the city. The dining area gets a bit crowded around 8 AM, so I learned to either go early or wait until after 9 when the business travelers had cleared out.
Why Guests Love It
What really makes Hotel Famosa work is that perfect combination of location and value — you’re paying three-star prices but getting four-star positioning in the city. Couples seem to particularly appreciate this place, and I can see why. You can walk hand-in-hand along the Rhine promenade in the evening, then duck into one of those cozy Altstadt pubs for a late dinner. The hotel gives you a solid, comfortable base without breaking the bank, which leaves more money for actually enjoying Düsseldorf. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need from a city hotel.

The location and the staff were excellent.
What could be improved: There is noise in the street because there is no AC and you need to keep the windows open.A pleasent stay that resulted in a perfect weekend. – Emile from Netherlands – 22 April 2025 (9/10)
The friendliness of the staff was great.
What could be improved: –Superb – Pejman from United States – 22 March 2025 (9/10)

Clean place
Good locationfair and clean hotel room – Laura from Portugal – 16 February 2025 (8/10)
hotel room is nice and comfortable, hotel is clean, it is close to the train station
What could be improved: there is a bit of "leftover smell" of cigarettes, probably from the exhaust system in the bathrooms, which is a bit annoyingSuperb – Flightparent from Cyprus – 23 November 2024 (9/10)
Good Location Comfortable Bed
What could be improved: Lift not working, but did not affect me much, as I only had Hand LuggageVery good – Amy from Australia – 21 October 2024 (8/10)
the room was super comfortable and the whole place very clean, staff always said hello and were smiling, location is a good walking distance from the station
What could be improved: i rated the location down because of the city itself, nothing to do with the hotel. as a solo female i didn't feel very safe in the streets, but once inside everything was fine. i also scored a room where the bathroom wasn't attatched, so i had to walk down the hall every time i needed the bathroom or even just filling my drink bottle – not the worst thing but just a bit annoyingEnjoyable stay and will be using this hotel again – Ian from Germany – 15 October 2024 (8/10)
Only 10 minutes walk from train station and about the same distance to old town. Staff very friendly and helpful.
What could be improved: Nothing negative to say about this hotelGreat place but way overpriced. – Alex from Netherlands – 16 September 2024 (7/10)
Very comfortable room, with a spacious bathroom. Very friendly staff. High quality toilet paper. Location in the center is superb, everything is within reach, even within walking distance.
What could be improved: We were staying at the 5th floor, but there isn't a lift to get us and our heavy luggage up to it. The shower has a very small shower head, making it difficult to really wash yourself clean. We had an ash tray outside the window, which had sigarette buds in still. The walls are paper thin, meaning we could hear our neighbour's every conversation. Breakfast has very few options, not even bacon or croissants. We paid nearly €200 for two nights, but with all these minor complaints, the stay wasn't as good as we'd expect for this price.
Also, no "green" washing procedure. Our towels got replaced even when not on the ground.Good – Maria from Philippines – 21 August 2024 (7/10)
It is clean and close to shops and bus station.
What could be improved: There is no elevator and it’s difficult since I have a heavy luggage and my room is on the 4th floor. There is also no air condition. This is challenging in the summer because you only have a small electric fan.Superb – Sahampathi from Germany – 20 August 2024 (9/10)
Everything was nicely arranged. Very clean and friendly staff.
What could be improved: The bathroom was outside the room. But it was not a huge issue..
