You know, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to Hotel Sir & Lady Astor on Kurfürstenstraße – honestly, the name sounds a bit pretentious, doesn’t it? But here’s the thing about this place: it’s actually got character in a way that most three-star hotels just don’t. The building itself has this old-world Düsseldorf charm (you can tell it’s been around), and when you step inside, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually cared about the details. The lobby isn’t huge or flashy, but it feels… I don’t know, authentic? Like they weren’t trying to impress anyone, just create something comfortable.

What really won me over was the location – and I mean this in the most practical way possible. You’re right in Stadtmitte, which means you can walk to the Altstadt in about ten minutes, maybe fifteen if you’re taking your time. But here’s what the booking sites don’t tell you: you’re close enough to everything without being in the middle of the weekend chaos around Schlüsselstraße. The street itself is pretty quiet at night, which honestly surprised me given how central you are. I could hear some traffic during the day, but nothing that kept me awake. The rooms are smaller than what you’d get in a modern chain hotel – well, this is Germany, space is premium – but they’ve made smart use of every corner. The bathroom was actually bigger than I expected, and the shower had proper water pressure (you’d be amazed how often that’s not the case). What I really appreciated was that the Wi-Fi actually worked throughout the building, even in the elevator, and check-in was refreshingly straightforward – no upselling, no lengthy explanations of facilities they don’t have.

Look, if you’re the type who needs a gym, room service, or a fancy breakfast buffet, this probably isn’t your place. But if you want somewhere clean, comfortable, and genuinely well-located without paying Königsallee prices, then yeah, I’d recommend it. The staff seemed to know the neighborhood really well – they gave me actual useful directions to places, not just the tourist stuff. I stayed there during a busy trade fair week, and while the hotel was full, it never felt crowded or rushed. That 8.7 rating makes sense to me; it’s not perfect, but it does what it promises really well. Plus, there’s something to be said for a place that doesn’t try to be everything to everyone – sometimes you just want a good night’s sleep in a decent location, and that’s exactly what you get here.

  I would give them 11 if I could. I stayed in one of their apartments across the street and so had to cross over to No. 18 for breakfast, but for that breakfast, I would have readily crossed half of Duesseldorf. The best part of the mornings was the fabulous Frau Mueller and her competent and ever helpful colleagues. The perfect start of the day, every day.
  
  But the hotel and its staff really excelled when I returned after a nasty accident. They went out of their way to get my damaged and bloodied gear fixed in no time, graciously rearranged my booking to fit in my hospital stay, and made sure that I was taken care of in every way, Sheer bliss!
  
  And a final short note about the hotel garden: This little green oasis just a few minutes from the main station is the perfect place to unwind.
  
  What could be improved: That I couldn't take Frau Mueller and her team home with me.

  We booked a room, but they gave us an apartment with a living room, kitchen, and bedroom. It was very nice and comfortable. The breakfast was outstanding, with great personal service, and sitting options inside or outside among flowers. Even the Garden could be used almost any time.

  Attention to detail. Comfortable bed and bed linen. Spotlessly clean. Everything works properly. Well appointed rooms. Magnifying mirror in the bathroom, always very helpful! Friendly helpful staff. Excellent breakfast buffet.They have made the most of the spaces that they have and the rooms are all differently decorated. My friend and I stayed 2 nights and had a great stay. Great location for us, near the old town, transport and concert venue.
