Hotel Description
Hotel Stern sits on this quiet stretch of Sternstraße in Pempelfort, and honestly, I almost walked past it the first time – it’s got that understated German hotel vibe where they don’t need a flashy entrance to prove anything. The neighborhood is actually one of those spots that locals love but tourists haven’t completely discovered yet, which means you’re a quick tram ride from the Altstadt but without all the noise and crowds right outside your window.
What really struck me about this place is how they’ve nailed that sweet spot between no-fuss efficiency and actually caring about details. The lobby has this warm, lived-in feeling – not fancy, but you know someone’s been maintaining it properly for years. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward (none of that overly enthusiastic “welcome to our world-class experience” stuff), and the woman at reception actually knew the area well enough to recommend a bakery around the corner that I never would’ve found otherwise. The rooms are… well, they’re exactly what you’d expect from a solid 3-star German hotel. Clean lines, everything works, decent-sized bathroom, and the beds are surprisingly comfortable – I mean, you’re not getting thread counts to write home about, but I slept well every night.
Here’s what I appreciated most though – the location gives you options. You’re close enough to walk to Königsallee if you’re into serious shopping, but you can also head the other direction toward the Rhine and find those little cafes and beer gardens that feel more like real Düsseldorf. The tram connections are solid, and there’s actually parking nearby if you’re driving (which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given in German cities). The only minor thing is that weekend mornings can get a bit lively with people heading to the weekend market, but honestly, that’s part of the charm of staying in an actual neighborhood rather than some sterile hotel district. For the price point and that 7.5 rating, Hotel Stern delivers exactly what it promises – a comfortable, well-located base that doesn’t try to be something it’s not. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

Great location. Kind staff. Spacious room. – Eugenio from United Kingdom – 28 July 2025 (9/10)
The room had lots of space plus a balcony with a sofa and a table, which made it ideal to relax at in the evening. Wifi was working well and the place was clean. Staff is attentive and kind. Definitely a must-stay option for those looking for a based accomodation in a good location of the city. The neighbourhood has various bars and restaurants – great pizzeria across the street.
