Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be honest – when you first pull up to Hotel Waldesruh on Am Wald, you might wonder if your GPS led you astray. It’s tucked away in this quiet residential pocket of Benrath that feels more like someone’s neighborhood than a hotel district, but that’s actually what makes it kind of perfect. The name literally means “forest peace,” and they weren’t kidding around – there’s this lovely wooded area right behind the property where you can actually hear birds instead of traffic, which is pretty rare for anywhere in Düsseldorf.

The place itself is, well, it’s a solid two-star that doesn’t try to be anything fancy, and I respect that. The rooms are clean and functional – think IKEA meets German efficiency – with those thick European curtains that actually block out light (thank god). The breakfast isn’t going to win any awards, but it’s proper German fare with decent coffee and fresh bread rolls. What really surprised me was how quiet it stays, even though you’re only about a 15-minute S-Bahn ride from the city center. The staff genuinely seems to care about getting things right, which you don’t always find at this price point. I mean, when I had an issue with the shower temperature, someone was up to fix it within twenty minutes – not bad for a smaller operation.

Here’s what you should know if you’re considering staying here: parking is free and actually available (miracle in Germany), the Benrath S-Bahn station is a pleasant ten-minute walk through some pretty tree-lined streets, and you’re literally a stone’s throw from Benrath Palace if you’re into Baroque architecture and gardens. The neighborhood has this authentic, lived-in feel – there’s a proper German bakery around the corner where locals queue up for weekend bread, and a few family-run restaurants that don’t bother with English menus because they don’t need to. It’s not glamorous, but it’s real. You’ll sleep well, save some money, and get a taste of how regular Düsseldorfers actually live, which honestly beats another sterile hotel near the Königsallee any day of the week.

To book a hotel in Dusseldorf during the famous Rhine in Flames festival season, visitors should make reservations well in advance as the city attracts fashion enthusiasts and business travelers from around the world.

Reviews

  • Love staying here. – Philip from United Kingdom – 28 June 2025 (9/10)

Easy self service check in and the rooms and entire hotel are in great condition. Private parking at the back. It's a quiet area. You have use of a kitchen with a locker in a fridge. Love this hotel.

    What could be improved: Nothing.

  • Very good – Ryan from United Kingdom – 23 June 2024 (8/10)

Staff spoke little English but were very helpful throughout our stay.

  • Good for some nights staying – Bruno from Germany – 21 September 2023 (7/10)

Self check-in is really useful. It was smooth and easy.
    The room is okay.

What could be improved: The location is the only big issue. But it's not very hard to walk to the S-Bahn or Bus stations. There's nothing much interning things nearby though.

  • Superb – Stephen from United Kingdom – 15 September 2022 (9/10)

Have stayed at Hotel Waldesruh on several occasions. Nice family run hotel on the outskirts of Dusseldorf with clean, comfortable rooms.

Was due to stay during covid lockdown back in 2020 and they refunded me even though I had made a non-refundable booking.

Hotel is 10 Minutes walk from Benrath train station which is served by both S-Bahn and RE trains. Free travel pass provided which covers entire VRR region.

    What could be improved: n/a

  • Nice quiet and comfortable night – Mae from France – 24 August 2022 (9/10)

The room was spacious enough with a desk, a comfortable bed, a large bathroom and a wardrobe in the entry, everything was clean. There is a free parking lot, the neighborhood seemed quiet (I stayed one Saturday night) and the nearest station less than 10 minutes walking. The staff was friendly. I also got a ticket to use the transportation for free, that was a good welcomed surprise!

What could be improved: Maybe just a kettle is missing if you want to make yourself some tea at night or coffee/tea in the morning if you don't want to have breakfast or to have a quick instant soup in the evening if you come back late.

  • Good – Andrea from United Kingdom – 15 January 2024 (7/10)

Beds were very comfortable and the rooms were warm. Shower was good though basic and the kitchenette was a nice addition.

  • Convenient stopover for Benrath Train Station. – Nicholas from United Kingdom – 12 October 2023 (7/10)

Simple no frills hotel at relatively good price.

What could be improved: No coffee making facilities.
