Hotel Waldesruh Overview

First Impressions

When I first pulled up to Hotel Waldesruh, I’ll be honest — it’s not going to blow you away with grand facades or marble lobbies. This two-star property in Düsseldorf‘s Benrath district has that understated German charm that grows on you. The name literally means \”forest peace,\” and you know what? They nailed it. Tucked away on Am Wald, it feels like you’ve escaped the city buzz without actually leaving town.

The Benrath Advantage

Here’s something most tourists miss — Benrath is actually a gem of a neighborhood. You’re close enough to hop on the S-Bahn and be in central Düsseldorf in about 20 minutes, but you get to stay somewhere that feels more like a small town. The famous Benrath Palace is practically around the corner, and honestly, couples seem to get this location better than anyone else (they rate it super highly). There’s free parking right at the hotel, which if you’ve ever tried to park in downtown Düsseldorf, you’ll appreciate more than you can imagine.

What Your Room Delivers

Look, this isn’t a spa resort, but the room I stayed in was exactly what I needed — clean, comfortable, and surprisingly quiet given how close you are to everything. The furnishings are simple but well-maintained, and the beds are actually quite good. I mean, for a two-star place, they’ve clearly put thought into the basics that matter. The windows open properly (not always a given), and there’s decent storage space for your stuff.

Morning Fuel

The breakfast situation here is better than you’d expect. They do both continental and buffet options, and while it’s not going to win any awards, it’s solid and filling. Fresh bread, decent coffee, and enough variety to get your day started right. I noticed quite a few guests seemed to be regulars — apparently this place has more repeat visitors than most hotels in the area, which tells you something about getting the fundamentals right.

Why Guests Love It

What really works about Hotel Waldesruh is that it knows exactly what it is. Recent guests consistently rate the location highly, and after staying here, I get why. You’re getting honest value without pretense — a clean, comfortable base in a neighborhood that locals actually live in, with easy access to both nature walks and city attractions. The staff seems genuinely friendly rather than just professionally polite, and there’s something refreshing about a place that focuses on doing the basics really well instead of trying to be something it’s not.

To book a hotel in Dusseldorf during the famous Rhine in Flames festival season, visitors should make reservations well in advance as the city attracts fashion enthusiasts and business travelers from around the world.

Easy self service check in and the rooms and entire hotel are in great condition. Private parking at the back. It's a quiet area. You have use of a kitchen with a locker in a fridge. Love this hotel.

Self check-in is really useful. It was smooth and easy.
    The room is okay.

What could be improved: The location is the only big issue. But it's not very hard to walk to the S-Bahn or Bus stations. There's nothing much interning things nearby though.

  • Superb – Stephen from United Kingdom – 15 September 2022 (9/10)

Have stayed at Hotel Waldesruh on several occasions. Nice family run hotel on the outskirts of Dusseldorf with clean, comfortable rooms.

Was due to stay during covid lockdown back in 2020 and they refunded me even though I had made a non-refundable booking.

Hotel is 10 Minutes walk from Benrath train station which is served by both S-Bahn and RE trains. Free travel pass provided which covers entire VRR region.

    What could be improved: n/a

  • Nice quiet and comfortable night – Mae from France – 24 August 2022 (9/10)

The room was spacious enough with a desk, a comfortable bed, a large bathroom and a wardrobe in the entry, everything was clean. There is a free parking lot, the neighborhood seemed quiet (I stayed one Saturday night) and the nearest station less than 10 minutes walking. The staff was friendly. I also got a ticket to use the transportation for free, that was a good welcomed surprise!

What could be improved: Maybe just a kettle is missing if you want to make yourself some tea at night or coffee/tea in the morning if you don't want to have breakfast or to have a quick instant soup in the evening if you come back late.
