So you know how Düsseldorf’s harbor area has completely transformed over the past decade? Well, the INNSiDE by Meliá sits right in the thick of that transformation, and honestly, they nailed the timing. This isn’t your typical corporate hotel – it’s got this modern, almost industrial-chic vibe that actually fits the whole MedienHafen aesthetic instead of fighting against it.

What really struck me was how they’ve embraced the whole “harbor district” thing without making it feel gimmicky. The lobby has these floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the Rheinturm perfectly, and you can actually see the Frank Gehry buildings from some of the upper floors – you know, those twisted metal structures that look like they’re melting in the sun. The rooms themselves are sleek without being cold, if that makes sense. Plenty of USB ports (thank god), blackout curtains that actually work, and surprisingly good soundproofing considering you’re basically in the middle of what used to be an industrial port. I mean, you’ll still hear the occasional tram from Stromstraße, but it’s more of a gentle urban hum than anything disruptive.

The restaurant situation is solid – their rooftop bar gets packed during summer evenings, especially when there’s a football match happening, but that’s half the fun. And here’s something I didn’t expect: the breakfast actually has decent coffee. Not just hotel lobby coffee, but proper espresso that doesn’t taste like it’s been sitting around since 6 AM. Location-wise, you’re maybe a seven-minute walk to the Rheinuferpromenade where all the locals jog and cycle, and the Old Town is close enough that you can stumble back after exploring the Altstadt breweries without needing a taxi. Parking can be a bit of a headache – I’d recommend booking a spot in advance because street parking around there is basically a competitive sport. The staff seems genuinely happy to be there, which is rarer than it should be, and they actually know the neighborhood well enough to point you toward that little Vietnamese place on Berger Straße instead of just handing you a generic tourist map. It’s one of those hotels where you feel like you’re staying in the city rather than hiding from it.
