Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Jugendherberge Düsseldorf on Düsseldorfer Straße, I wasn’t expecting much. The name literally means “youth hostel” in German, but don’t let that fool you because this place has evolved into something pretty unique. It’s sitting right in Oberkassel, which honestly is one of the better-kept secrets in Düsseldorf – you’re across the Rhine from all the tourist madness in Altstadt, but you can still see the city skyline from certain spots along the riverbank.
What actually surprised me was how they’ve managed to shake off that typical hostel vibe without going full corporate hotel. The building itself has this sort of understated charm, and once you’re inside, it feels more like a boutique spot than anything else. I mean, they don’t have an official star rating, which initially made me nervous, but sometimes that’s actually a good sign – means they’re not trying to fit into some cookie-cutter category. The rooms are clean and thoughtfully designed, nothing fancy but definitely comfortable. You know what I appreciated? The windows actually open properly (so many hotels seal you in like a sardine can), and on quiet nights you can hear the Rhine in the distance, which is surprisingly soothing.
The Oberkassel location is really where this place shines though. You’re maybe a ten-minute walk to the Rheinturm and that whole waterfront area, but without dealing with the crowds and noise that come with staying right in the center. There’s this great little stretch of cafes and restaurants along Luegallee that most tourists never find, and honestly, the local bakeries around here put the stuff in Altstadt to shame. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle – street parking is doable but you’ll want to read the signs carefully because the locals are serious about their regulations. The front desk folks are genuinely helpful with directions, and they actually know the neighborhood instead of just rattling off tourist spots from a script. I’d say the 7.7 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it does what it promises well. If you want something authentic without the backpacker chaos or the sterile business hotel experience, and you don’t mind being a short tram ride from the main action, this place actually makes a lot of sense.

What could be improved: There is no elevator, so if u have big luggage then its uncomfortablemet some new friends there which is best part – Deviant from Germany – 18 March 2025 (9/10)
it locates on the street that’s easy to find, and it’s big and nice
Awesome value for money – Jon from United Kingdom – 27 June 2024 (9/10)
Included breakfast. Clean rooms. Location. Staff. It was a very easy chilled place.
What could be improved: My bunk bed was really rickety and when the person above me moved it woke me up. It also seemed like maybe part of his bed was not screwed up properly because the top bunk sagged, where as this didn't happen on the other bunk bed. (Room 24 btw if someone wants to fix it)Superb – Chris from United Kingdom – 26 June 2024 (9/10)
Super modern building full of a real mixture of people. Vicky overheard my surname whilst checking in, and remembered my first name from an email query – which she had resolved!
What could be improved: It's a bit out of town.
To be fair it's only just over the river, right at the end of the bridge..but it felt out of the way to us, as we had accommodation right next to the main station in the other cities.
Great transport makes this less of an issue.Decent value for money, staff were very friendly and helpful. – John from United Kingdom – 22 June 2024 (7/10)
Location and staff
What could be improved: Very basic and no shower gel however, it was a hostel.Superb – Simon from United Kingdom – 20 June 2024 (9/10)
Easy to use
What could be improved: NaGood experience in total. – Seyed from Belgium – 29 January 2024 (9/10)
The room was very clean and tidy. Also, the shower and WC was very clean. The good point is, there was locker for each bed in the room with the lock and keys included which I really liked. Also, there is a nice cafe with good foods and drinks.
What could be improved: The thing that I didn't like was that there was no place for charging phone near the beds which was annoying and I had to stay awake during charging my phone in the toilet! There was a light near each bed but not charging plug! also, the room was cold at night.Nice but a bit expensive for a bed in hostel – Za from Iran – 2 January 2024 (9/10)
so clean and friendly staff. perfect breakfast and nice environment.
What could be improved: not in walking distance with main parts of the city. expensive for a hostel. no internet. no wifi connection, even data was not responding in the area of hostel.Very good – Mo from Germany – 23 April 2023 (8/10)
very nice staff. young atmosphere.
What could be improved: you need to do the bed linen by yourself. but it’s a Jugendherberge!Superb – Hamza from Turkey – 21 February 2023 (9/10)
Breakfast was very rich and delicious. I stayed with my family and my children liked bunk.
What could be improved: internet connection is not available in the room. the connection was only on the lobby.
