Honestly, when I first pulled up to 39 Oberbilker Allee, I wasn’t expecting much – the building looks pretty standard from the outside, you know? But once you get inside this suite, it’s actually a really solid setup that feels more like borrowing a friend’s well-appointed apartment than staying in typical hotel accommodation.

The balcony is what sold me initially (and probably why this place scores that impressive 9.2 rating). It’s not huge, but it’s got just enough space for your morning coffee and faces toward the quieter side of the street, which matters more than you’d think in this part of Friedrichstadt. The neighborhood itself is one of those spots that locals know about but tourists often miss – you’re genuinely central without being stuck in the touristy chaos around the Altstadt. I mean, you can walk to the Rhine in about fifteen minutes, and there’s this great little Turkish place just two blocks down that does incredible döner. The U-Bahn connection at Heinrich-Heine-Allee is close enough that you don’t need to think twice about getting anywhere in the city.

What really makes this place work, though, is all the stuff that actually matters when you’re staying somewhere for more than a night or two. That washing machine isn’t just a nice-to-have – it’s properly sized and works well, which saved me from packing half my wardrobe for a longer stay. The suite setup gives you real space to spread out, with a separate living area that doesn’t feel cramped or awkwardly configured like so many of these converted apartments do. The kitchen area is functional enough for basic meals (there’s a decent Rewe supermarket about five minutes away), and honestly, the whole place just feels… comfortable. Not fancy, but genuinely livable. The WiFi actually works consistently, the shower has proper water pressure, and – this might sound weird but it matters – the neighbors are quiet. I stayed here during what must have been a busy week in October, and I barely heard anyone else in the building. Sometimes with these residential-style places you end up dealing with thin walls and people coming and going at all hours, but this building seems well-maintained and respectful. The check-in process was straightforward too, though you’ll want to communicate in advance about timing since it’s not like a traditional hotel front desk situation. For a 3-star place, it punches well above its weight class, and that rating makes total sense once you’ve actually spent a few days here.

  Property was spotless and beautifully furnished. Location was great: a short walk to the hbf with grocery stores nearby. We stayed here as a group of four and had plenty of space. The kitchen allowed us to cook a meal which was a welcome change in our week long backpacking trip.

  What could be improved: Ich persönlich fand es nicht wirklich gemütlich auf dem Balkon, um länger dort zu sitzen lädt er nicht ein. Ist aber vollkommen in Ordnung (meckern auf hohem Niveau!)

  What could be improved: We waren met 5 meiden in dit appartement en blijkbaar was het erg gehorig. Het was ook rond een binnenplaats gebouwd waardoor al het geluid overal naar binnen gaat. Wij hebben hier zelf niet echt last van gehad, maar omwonenden blijkbaar wel. Misschien handig om te vermelden voor jonge groepen dat er na 10:00 eigenlijk niet meer gezeten kan worden.

  Wir hatten einen sehr schönen Aufenthalt in der Ferienwohnung. Alles sehr sauber, perfekt ausgestattet und besonders eingerichtet. Ein unkomplizierter Check in, sehr zentrale Lage, S-Bahn in 1-2 Minuten zu erreichen.
  Wir waren mit 2 Erwachsene und 2 Kindern für zwei Nächte dort. Einkaufsmöglichkeiten und Gastronomie in wenigen Minuten zu erreichen.
  Wir kommen beim nächsten Mal sehr gerne wieder.
  
  What could be improved: Die S-Bahn ist etwas zu hören, aber nur kurz und mittelmäßig störend.
