The furniture has that clean, Scandinavian-ish vibe without being cold or sterile, and honestly, the bed was way more comfortable than I expected from a 3-star place.

What really sold me on this spot though is the location – and I know everyone says that, but hear me out. Holthausen isn’t exactly the postcard part of Düsseldorf, but that’s actually why it works. You’re about fifteen minutes by tram to the Altstadt if you want the touristy beer halls and Rhine walks, but you’re also surrounded by actual neighborhood life. There’s this great Turkish bakery just around the corner that locals line up at every morning (their börek is ridiculous), and the whole area has that lived-in feeling where you can grab groceries at normal prices instead of tourist markup. The S-Bahn connection is solid too – I could get to the airport in like twenty minutes, which saved me a fortune in taxi fees.

The check-in process is all digital, which threw me for a loop at first because there’s no traditional front desk, but it’s actually smoother once you get the hang of it. Just don’t be like me and assume you’ll figure it out on the spot – download their app beforehand and you’ll save yourself some sidewalk fumbling. The building itself is pretty quiet, even on weekends, though you might hear some street noise if you’re a really light sleeper. Parking can be a bit tricky during the day – the neighborhood spots fill up fast – but evenings and weekends are usually fine.

Look, this isn’t going to be anyone’s dream luxury getaway, and if you’re the type who needs a concierge and room service, you’ll probably want to look elsewhere. But if you want a clean, comfortable base that feels more like staying in someone’s guest apartment than a cookie-cutter hotel room, and you don’t mind being a little outside the main tourist bubble, this place really delivers. The 7.9 rating feels about right – it’s doing the fundamentals well without any major surprises, good or bad. Plus, at these prices, you can actually afford to eat out at some of Düsseldorf’s better restaurants instead of blowing your budget on accommodation.

  It was quite well designed rooms, makes you feel like home. Everyhing is so clean, and they even leave at home oil and stuff to cook.

  Very clean, spacious, there was a coffee machine in the room with coffee, kettle with tea bags, my room was on the fifth floor which was very nice.

  What could be improved: On 5th floor, direction to room was not well guided.
  We ended up climbing 5 floors with heavy luggage and later on we figured out own way to elevator. Customer care was available but they bluntly said they don’t have elevator. Who will stay on 5th floor without elevator.

  It was very close to the train station so you can easily go to places. There are also stores at the ground floor and nearby streets

  What could be improved: The kitchen was missing a few needed utensils, like a spatula. It would have been nice if there was a stove and Air conditioning. Unfortunately on those hot days I had to open the window. With the window being open, the outdoor noise flying insects such as bees and flies came in. It was difficult to sleep with a local bar outside and the frequent tram going by.
