Oberkassel sits on the left bank of the Rhine, and it’s got this relaxed, almost residential vibe that feels miles away from the business district hustle across the river, even though you’re literally just a bridge away from downtown Düsseldorf.

The hotel itself has this boutique feel that actually lives up to the JdV brand promise – and I mean that in a good way, not in a “trying too hard to be quirky” way. The design feels genuinely thoughtful, with these little touches that make you realize someone actually cared about creating spaces where people want to hang out. I spent way too much time in their lobby area just because it felt comfortable, not because I was waiting for anything. The rooms are what I’d call “smart sized” – not huge, but everything’s placed exactly where it should be. You’ll find yourself not missing the extra square footage because nothing feels cramped or awkward.

What really won me over though was the location situation. Look, everyone talks about being close to the Königsallee for shopping, but honestly? Being in Oberkassel means you’re walking distance to some genuinely great local spots that most tourists never find. There’s this whole stretch along the Rhine promenade that’s perfect for morning runs or evening walks – actually peaceful, unlike the more touristy areas. And if you’re into the whole Altstadt scene (the old town with all the breweries), it’s just a quick trip across the Oberkasseler Brücke. The staff seemed to actually know the neighborhood too, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how rare that is. They pointed me toward this little bakery around the corner that I never would have discovered otherwise.
