Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be straight with you about Messeappartement Unterrath – it’s one of those places that completely surprised me. When I first pulled up to Breisacher Straße, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a pretty standard apartment building in this quiet residential corner of Düsseldorf. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are hiding in plain sight. The whole setup is basically apartment-style accommodations, which means you get way more space than your typical hotel room, plus you’re living like a local instead of feeling like a tourist trapped in some sterile hotel corridor. The area itself is genuinely residential – I mean, you’ll see people walking their dogs in the morning and kids heading to school, which gives you this authentic slice of German daily life that you just can’t get staying near the Altstadt.
What really won me over was how practical everything is here. The apartments come with proper kitchens (not those sad little hotel kitchenettes), so you can actually cook if you want to save some euros or just feel like having breakfast without hunting down a café. The whole Unterrath neighborhood is honestly underrated – it’s got this calm, lived-in vibe that’s perfect if you’re tired of fighting crowds, but you’re still only about 15 minutes from the city center by U-Bahn. I spent a good chunk of time just wandering the local streets, and there’s something refreshing about being somewhere that hasn’t been completely touristified. The S-Bahn connections are solid too, especially if you’re planning day trips to Cologne or other spots along the Rhine. Parking was surprisingly easy, which – let’s be real – is kind of a miracle in any German city these days. The management team seems to actually care about the place, which shows in those little details that make a difference when you’re staying somewhere for more than just a night or two.
Here’s the thing that really sealed it for me: this place just works without trying too hard. It’s not trying to be boutique or luxury or whatever – it’s just comfortable, clean, and thoughtfully set up. The 9.1 rating makes total sense once you’re there, because it delivers exactly what it promises without any of the usual hotel nonsense. If you’re the type who values space, quiet, and being able to live normally while you’re traveling, this is honestly a gem. Sure, it’s not going to wow you with fancy lobbies or room service, but I actually slept better here than I have in most four-star hotels. The neighborhood has a few solid restaurants within walking distance, and there’s a decent grocery store nearby if you want to stock up. I’d definitely come back – actually, I’m already thinking about it for my next Düsseldorf trip, especially since the value is just so much better than what you’ll pay for cramped hotel rooms closer to the center.
Visitors often choose Dusseldorf apartments over traditional hotels because they provide more space, kitchen facilities, and the opportunity to live like a local in this magnificent Rhine metropolis.

Spacious and well equipped apartment. – Erik from Netherlands – 26 March 2025 (9/10)
The apartment was spacious and had everything needed for a good stay: a comfortable bed, lovely rainshower, and facilities for self catering. Even milk in the fridge and fresh fruit to enjoy. I did not meet the host, but instructions to get the key were clear and the apartment was warm and cosy when I arrived at night.
Really nice accommodation ideally placed between the airport and the Messe. Perfect for my work trip. – Keir from United Kingdom – 11 November 2024 (10/10)
The room was great – very well equipped and nicely presented. It’s also very quiet so got a good nights sleep. Stefan was really friendly and even dropped me off at the Messe in the morning which I very much appreciated.
Homely and modern! – Skye from Australia – 11 March 2024 (10/10)
We felt very at home here. It was a lovely homely place with a lot of nice touches! It was also very modern and well furnished. Checkin was very easy. The apartment is a granny flat so very private. The owner is also very lovely and kind and made us feel right at home! Well worth the stay and very close to the airport! We'd love to stay again!

Amazing appartement and host – György from Hungary – 17 November 2023 (10/10)
You can not imagine better accomodation than this one and better host than Stefan. The appartement is fully equipped. You can find anything you need including fully equipped kitchen, towels, toiletires, fast internet, fruits, coffe, mini bar and it is very clean. No problem with late check in, very fast access to this separated appartement. Stefan is very friendly and helpful host. He is the best I have ever met. He took us to the Messe by his own car because the weather was very rainy. He offerred us a good restaurant and he helped us by anything we needed. Thank you so much Stefan. I really appreciate your kindness.
I would give more than 10 points but unfortunately it is not possible.

What could be improved: NothingGreat location, reasonable price and the best host ever! – Ankan from United Kingdom – 5 May 2023 (10/10)
The location of the apartment is perfect if you’re visiting Dusseldorf Messe. Its 10 min from the Airport and it’s 10 min to the Messe by taxi. The host Stephen is probably the most friendly and generous person I’ve ever met, of all the places that I’ve stayed. I arrived late to the apartment but Stephen was waiting for me to hand over the keys. The room size was quite big and very clean, with all required amenities including a small kitchen. Stephen provided fruits, cereals, milk, tea, coffee etc for breakfast and also some beers and wines for someone who wants. The best part of the stay was that Stephen himself dropped me to the event venue as he knew that taxis will be difficult to find given the scale of the trade fair. I never expected that. One thing is for sure, whenever I visit Dusseldorf for work, the first thing i’ll check is the availability of this room. You may find big hotels and lot of other comfortable options, but you may never find such a lovely host.
What could be improved: There was absolutely nothing that one could complain about.Excellent, I have been in touch with the owner to book for next MEDICA – Upton from United Kingdom – 18 November 2022 (9/10)
great location to get to both the Messe and the airport
What could be improved: There may have been some shutters on the outside, but there were no curtains at the window. It was not overlooked, but I like to have a dark room to sleep inExceptional – Waleed from Pakistan – 25 October 2022 (10/10)
The host was very helpful and cordial. Dropped me off to the show so i didn't have to carry luggage on the public transport.
