Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard the name “Messezimmer 4 u 2,” I thought it was going to be one of those cookie-cutter business hotels that feels like sleeping in an office building. But this little place on Reiherweg actually surprised me in the best way possible. It’s tucked away in Unterrath, which most tourists completely skip over, but that’s exactly why it works so well.

The location is sort of perfect if you know Düsseldorf at all. You’re far enough from the city center chaos that you can actually sleep at night (and I mean really sleep – no trams rattling by at 5 AM), but the U-Bahn connection is right there when you need it. Reiherweg itself is this quiet residential street where actual locals live, so you’ll see people walking their dogs and kids riding bikes instead of crowds of conference-goers clutching coffee and looking stressed. The owners clearly get that most of their guests are here for the Messe – hence the name, obviously – but they’ve managed to create something that feels more like staying at a well-organized friend’s place than a typical trade fair hotel.

What really got me was the attention to small things that matter when you’re traveling. The Wi-Fi actually works everywhere (not just “technically available” like so many places), there’s proper blackout curtains that block the early German summer sunrise, and – this might sound weird – but the shower pressure is fantastic. You know how hotel showers usually either scald you or dribble lukewarmly? Not here. The rooms themselves are clean and functional without being sterile, and honestly, after spending days walking around exhibition halls, that’s exactly what you want. The staff speaks excellent English, which helps when you’re tired and your German starts falling apart, and they genuinely seem to know the area well enough to give you real recommendations, not just tourist trap suggestions.

I stayed during a busy trade fair season, and while the hotel was full, it never felt crowded or noisy. The breakfast situation is solid – nothing fancy, but proper coffee and fresh bread, which is really all you need before diving into another day of meetings or sightseeing. Parking was straightforward too, which if you’ve ever tried to park near the Messe district during a big event, you’ll know is practically a miracle.

The thing is, this place has a 9 out of 10 rating for good reason, and it’s not because they’re trying to be something they’re not. They’ve figured out exactly what business travelers and smart tourists actually need – a quiet, reliable base that doesn’t drain your wallet or your energy. It’s the kind of place you’d book again without thinking twice about it, especially if you’re planning to spend serious time at the Messe or just want to experience Düsseldorf like someone who lives there rather than someone passing through.

  Das Zimmer hat absolut meinen Vorstellungen entsprochen. Sauberkeit, Hygiene und Service waren außergewöhnlich! Der Gastgeber war sehr bemüht, meinen Aufenthalt so angenehm wie möglich zu machen. Ich habe selten so etwas erlebt!

  Wofür ich wirklich dankbar war: das kühle Kellerzimmer im warmen Juli. Ich konnte in einem Hotelzimmer in der Nähe vom Hbf letztes Jahr kaum schlafen, weil es keine Klimaanlage gab und die Decken viel zu dick waren – Hier war nicht einmal eine Klimaanlage nötig und es war schön natürlich kühl. Es gab auch Fenster zum Durchlüften. Die Lage war zudem wirklich nah an der Messe gelegen, mit einem kurzen Fußmarsch war der Bus auch super gut zu erreichen. Was ich auch wirklich toll fand, war das extrem saubere Badezimmer – jeden Tag wurde das Bad gereinigt und die Tücher sauber gefaltet und ordentlich aufgehangen, die Badematte nach 2 Tagen ausgewechselt. Sogar Zahnputzbecher standen bereit. Da wurde viel Liebe ins Detail gesteckt und der Inhaber hat sich wirklich Gedanken gemacht, um den Komfort der Gäste zu maximieren.
  
  What could be improved: Alles war wirklich gut, das einzige was mir gefehlt hat war eine Mikrowelle, aber da kann ich verstehen, dass der Inhaber sie rausgenommen hat auf Grund von Gerüchen. Dafür war der Kühlschrank echt praktisch und wir haben den auch jeden Tag genutzt. Ich würde jederzeit wiederkommen!!

  Es war sehr sauber und ruhig. Die Gastgeber war sehr nett. Die Betten waren sehr bequem und das Zimmer hatte eine gute Größe. Es gab sogar auch Küchenutensilien.
