Mitten in Düsseldorf Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Mitten in Düsseldorf, you immediately get that “oh, this is nice” feeling — it’s one of those places that feels both polished and welcoming without trying too hard. The name literally means “in the middle of Düsseldorf,” and honestly, they’re not kidding around with that promise. This four-star property sits right in the Unterbilk district, which I’ll admit isn’t the first neighborhood tourists think of, but that’s actually part of its charm.
The Unterbilk Advantage
Here’s what I love about staying in Unterbilk — you’re close enough to everything that matters in Düsseldorf without dealing with the tourist crowds every time you step outside. The restaurant scene around here is fantastic, with local spots that actually cater to people who live here rather than just passing through. You can walk to the Rhine promenade in about ten minutes, and the old town is easily reachable by tram or a pleasant stroll. I mean, couples are rating the location 9.0 out of 10, so clearly I’m not the only one who thinks this area works really well.
The Room Experience
The rooms here strike that perfect balance between modern comfort and not feeling like you’re sleeping in a showroom. Each room has this clean, minimalist vibe with warm touches that make it feel less corporate hotel and more like a really well-designed urban retreat. The beds are genuinely comfortable — not just hotel marketing comfortable — and the bathrooms are spacious enough that you’re not bumping into everything when you’re getting ready. What I particularly appreciated was the attention to lighting; there are actually enough outlets where you need them, and the blackout curtains work properly.
Getting Around and Practical Stuff
The location really is the star here, which makes sense given that recent guests rated it 8.9 for location quality. You’re well-connected to public transport, so getting to Königsallee for shopping or the Altstadt for sightseeing is straightforward. Parking can be arranged if you’re driving, though honestly, you probably won’t need a car much once you’re settled in. The staff seems to genuinely know the area well — they gave me solid recommendations for dinner spots that weren’t just the obvious tourist places.
Why Guests Love It
What sets this place apart is how it manages to feel both central and peaceful. You’re not sacrificing location for tranquility or vice versa, which is pretty rare in a city like Düsseldorf. The 8.2 overall rating reflects what you actually experience — it’s a solid, well-run hotel that does the important things really well without any major surprises (good or bad). It’s the kind of place where you can focus on exploring the city rather than dealing with hotel issues, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want from your accommodation.

What could be improved: Cleanliness of glasses and facilities.Did NOT feel supported nor "welcomed" as I had read – Maria from Canada – 10 September 2023 (8/10)
It location was close to the tram which goes downtown. The neighbourhood is small but bustling. The apartment itself was charming and had many helpful things like spices and cooking pots.
What could be improved: 1) The communication was terrible. During written correspondence (before arrival), it was fine. For the keys, I was told to call when I arrived. So I borrowed a stranger's phone to call [him]. He buzzed me in, and the call ended. I assumed I would meet this person in a few minutes.
NOPE.
———————————————————————————————–
25 minutes went by as I stood in a dark hallway with no further instructions. I had to once again wrangle a passerby to call [him] again. This time he told me he "was about 2 hours away". With some help from a kindly neighbour, he finally gave me directions to go upstairs to find it. It turns out the apartment had been left unlocked.. So in all the time I waited downstairs, I could have simply have gone in! (Landlord Fail!) Also, when I asked him if I could call him if I had any more questions, he sounded impatient/rude. Even the neighbour looked kind of surprised..
———————————————————————————————–
Later the washroom light didn't work. I wrote [him] again. He wrote to "make on and off the light, it is on the floor". I tried everything. When his wife finally came in later that evening, she was helpful. His instructions ("on the floor") were absolutely misleading/incorrect. (SHE was great, but… !)

2) This apartment is on the 2nd floor and right beside the street. While the apartment itself is charming and quiet, people like to drink and stand outside chatting late at night. They did nearly every night, and you can clearly hear it. When at 11:30, I politely asked if they could please keep it down, I was barked at by the owner of the liquor shop next door.3rd time vacation at 60 Lorettastrasse – Susan from United Kingdom – 10 July 2023 (10/10)
Apartment is clean and homely.
Location is excellent.
Your own self- contained apartment with your own keys so you are free to come and go.
