Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to the Moxy Düsseldorf South on Bonner Straße, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place in Holthausen. But you know what? This hotel actually gets it right in ways that surprised me.

The whole vibe hits you the moment you walk in – it’s that effortless cool that Moxy does well, with industrial touches and pops of color that don’t feel forced. The lobby doubles as a social space where people actually hang out (rare for German hotels, honestly), and the check-in process was refreshingly quick. What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to know the neighborhood – they didn’t just hand me a generic city map but actually pointed out that there’s a solid Turkish bakery two blocks down and mentioned the S-Bahn timing to get into the city center. Speaking of which, you’re about 15 minutes from Düsseldorf’s Altstadt by train, which is honestly perfect. Close enough to matter, far enough to avoid the tourist chaos and inflated prices.

The rooms are compact – I mean, this is Europe, so no surprises there – but they’re smartly designed. Everything has a purpose, and the bed was actually comfortable (sometimes you roll the dice with boutique-style places). The shower had proper water pressure, which sounds mundane until you’ve stayed in places where it takes ten minutes to rinse shampoo. One thing that caught me off guard was how quiet it was at night. Bonner Straße can get busy during the day, but the soundproofing works, and honestly, Holthausen shuts down pretty early anyway. The neighborhood itself is one of those authentic residential areas where you’ll see more locals than tourists – there’s a weekly market nearby, and the whole stretch has that lived-in feel that makes you understand how actual Düsseldorfers live. If you’re the type who wants to experience a city beyond the main attractions, this location delivers. Plus, parking was straightforward and reasonably priced, which anyone who’s driven in German cities will appreciate. The 8.4 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be luxury, but it nails what it is: a well-designed, efficiently run hotel that doesn’t cut corners on the stuff that actually matters to travelers.

  What could be improved: The "shower style" faucet, tap, is very bad. It ´difficult to brush one´s teeth properly, for example.

  Crew offered compensation for switch of room. Wifi worked great. Hotel entrance had fragrant and vibrant ambiance. In general the location is great with a small shopping area in 100 meters.

  Hotel has A/C (which is not that common in Europe). Private car park with lots of empty slots (ok, it's probably not the busy season). Nice people at reception.

  Again not something to do with hotel but people using bad language in breakfast line, doesn’t create a good environment.

  Great Breakfast. Parking spots available directly on the property. Staff was friendly. Bathroom was clean and the room itself looked great. Checkout was also pretty easy since they offer an express checkout
  
  What could be improved: We arrived in the middle of the night around 1AM. But we weren't able to enter the building because you need your key card to enter. We tried calling, but it seemed like their phone was on mute.. We only were able to enter because other guests let us in with their key card.

  Do it yourself menu is fun and pragmatic when it comes to choose our own ingredients for dinner. The night shift staff was incredible polite and explanatory, having a great feeling of being welcome to the hotel and the city. Interesting to have a DJ with nice music, not too loud, beautiful decoration, very warm and cozy, also nice the game area and loved the couches and different seating options everywhere. The rooms are espacious, good lights, nice bed sheets, and bathroom very modern and complete, the cleaning service also very good. Amazing options for buffet breakfast bar, great quality of breads and pastry: fresh and tasty, also a lot of variety donuts, cereales, a lot to choose and everything delicious. Interesting option is the 24/7 of pizza and drinks!
  
  What could be improved: This might be a one-time situation but don't want to skip it. The breakfast buffet offers scrumble eggs using an big device, which I have never seen before and it is a great idea from the hotel to have a semi-automatic machine for eggs which can make your morning easier and tastier (I think is the "SCRAEGG pro" machine). Unfortunately, the staff had a passive-aggresive attitude when I did not understand how to use it: I watched the instructions screen and pictures which were nice but at a bit fast speed, so I did it wrong. Even though it was my mistake, it was my first time at this hotel and the staff talked to me in a sarcastic tone and laugh at my face. This is not appreciated at all.
