Look, I’ll be straight with you about Näher Messe und Flughafen – the name pretty much tells you everything you need to know, and honestly, that’s not a bad thing. This little 3-star spot on Fasanenweg is exactly what it says on the tin: close to both the trade fair grounds and the airport, tucked away in Unterrath where most tourists never venture but locals actually live.

I mean, Unterrath isn’t going to win any beauty contests, but here’s what I discovered – it’s got this authentic, lived-in feel that you just don’t get in the polished city center. The hotel itself surprised me, actually. You walk in expecting budget-basic (which, let’s face it, the exterior kind of suggests), but the inside has this quietly competent vibe. The staff genuinely seems to care, probably because they’re not dealing with hordes of tourists every day. Check-in was smooth, parking was straightforward – none of that circling-the-block nonsense you get downtown. The rooms are clean and functional without trying too hard to be trendy, which I actually appreciated. You know what really sold me? The shower had proper water pressure, and the Wi-Fi didn’t cut out every five minutes.

Here’s the thing about the location that booking sites won’t tell you – yes, you’re about 15 minutes from the airport by taxi (maybe 20 if there’s traffic), and the Messe is practically next door if you’re here for a trade show. But you’re also in this quiet residential area where you can actually hear yourself think. The U-Bahn connection at Unterrath station gets you into the Altstadt in about 20 minutes, so it’s not like you’re stranded. Plus, there’s this fantastic Turkish place just down the street that locals frequent – way better than anything you’ll find in the tourist zones, and half the price. The neighborhood has that early-morning-dog-walkers, corner-bakery kind of charm that grows on you. Sure, it’s not Instagram-pretty, but it feels real in a way that’s becoming harder to find. For the price point and that solid 8.2 rating, this place delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense – which, honestly, is refreshing when so many hotels try to oversell themselves and under-deliver.

  Host was amazing we were cold for the first couple of days and we were provided with a portable heater within an hour of arrival. It's possible the accommodation had been empty for a few days making it difficult to warm the apartment. Once it warmed up it was great.
  
  What could be improved: The Facilities section on booking.com is a bit misleading it states Kitchen however there is no kitchen this needs to be made clear. We found the bins for the recycling however could not find the non recycling bin.

  Good location, ideal for early flights. The place was clean and everything worked as it should.

  Clean, tidy, spacious, modern furnished, freshly smelled apartment, quiet area, fully equipped with most facilities required. Thanks for the mineral water and milk provided in the fridge, clean bathroom, good heating in the bathroom, good wifi signal and comfortable bed.
  Smooth check in experience, good communication with the host. Location was not too bad as 7 min walkimg distance from.the bus stop which takes directly to the HBF and city centre.
  
  What could be improved: The room was so cold at night. No heating at all. I could not use the extra sheets placed in the wardrobe as they had a strong levender smell which I am allergic to (might have been helpful)!
  Only one used toilet paper in the bathroom!
  The check in and out was put on Booking from 00.00 to 00.00 which was the main reason to choose this place. However, upon checking with the host, I was told the check out is 11.00, they allowed me to stay until 12.00 (thanks for that), they apologised and promised to change it on Booking.

  What could be improved: it was impossible to connect the wi-fi. New password? TV worked with wi-fi (you-tube, internet…) but was unable to maintain the TV channels (I scanned more than once).

  Rendezett, tiszta volt a szállás, még vízforraló, törölközők és tusfürdő is volt! A tulajdonos nagyon kedves és segítőkész, minden üzenetre hamar válaszol!

  Goede locatie in een rustige buurt en toch dichtbij de luchthaven en de Messe.
  De incheck is met code en sleutelkastje wat gemakkelijk is bij een late aankomst.
  Fijn om een koffie en thee voorziening te treffen.
  Goede douche met snel warm water.
  
  What could be improved: Parkeren is langs de straat en niet altijd een vrije plaats in de buurt.
  De matras is aan vernieuwing toe daar hij een kuil begint te vormen.
