Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Old Town Apartments? The location is absolutely killer – you’re literally standing on Burgplatz, which means you’re basically in the heart of Düsseldorf’s most charming neighborhood. I mean, when you step outside, you’ve got cobblestones under your feet and you can practically smell the history (okay, maybe that’s just the nearby bakery, but still). The building itself has this wonderful old-world character that somehow manages to feel grand without being stuffy – it’s got that five-star designation, but honestly, it feels more like staying in a really well-appointed friend’s place than some impersonal luxury hotel.
The apartments themselves are genuinely spacious, which is such a relief after dealing with those tiny European hotel rooms elsewhere. Each unit feels thoughtfully put together – the kitchens actually have proper equipment (not just a sad mini-fridge and a broken coffee maker), and the living areas have enough room to spread out your stuff without feeling like you’re playing Tetris with your luggage. The bathrooms are particularly nice, though I will say the water pressure can be a bit… temperamental in the mornings when everyone’s getting ready. The beds are comfortable enough, and the windows – well, depending on which side you’re on, you might catch glimpses of the Rhine or at least some pretty decent street scenes. Fair warning though: Altstadt can get pretty lively on weekend nights, so if you’re a light sleeper, maybe pack some earplugs.
What really makes this place special is how it drops you right into local life. You’re a two-minute walk from Schlossturm, and the Saturday market on Carlsplatz is close enough that you’ll probably end up there for fresh bread and coffee most mornings (seriously, do this – the vendors are incredibly friendly and the pastries are ridiculous). The Rhine promenade is right there too, perfect for those early evening walks when the light hits the water just right. Parking can be tricky – the nearby streets fill up fast, especially during busy seasons, but there’s usually something within a few blocks if you’re patient. Check-in was surprisingly smooth when I stayed, though the front desk isn’t staffed 24/7, so definitely coordinate your arrival time ahead of time. For what you get – the space, the location, that genuine old Düsseldorf atmosphere – it’s actually pretty solid value, even if it’s not perfect. The 7.5 rating feels about right; it’s really good at what it does, just don’t expect everything to be flawless.
To book a hotel in Dusseldorf during the famous Rhine in Flames festival season, visitors should make reservations well in advance as the city attracts fashion enthusiasts and business travelers from around the world.

Reviews
Great Location, great value for money – Paul from United Kingdom – 1 October 2024 (7/10)
Fantastic location, property was cleaned and reasonably well equipped. No AC but not an issue with the weather we had!
What could be improved: There was no hairdryer which was a real problem for a travelling lady! The Sliding doors are on their last legs and potentailly dangerous, there is no lift and its four flights of stairs which may be an issue to some. There was no sofa so the TV was kinda pointless.Superb location for group trip – Donald from United Kingdom – 15 July 2024 (9/10)
Excellent location. Right on main area in Alstadt. Perfect for groups. Exactly what was needed, place to sleep. Clean
What could be improved: The apartment we had the shower was plumbed into the side at an odd angle but still worked obviously. Just slightly awkward with the bathtubNice place, decent value for money – but probably too little space if you completely fill it up. – Tobias from Germany – 11 July 2023 (7/10)
– very nice hosts, answered questions quickly and allowed early check-in
– comfy rooms
– comfy beds
– We booked two apartments, one had a really nice kitchen
– in the middle of the Düsseldorf pedestrian zone
– local trains nearby (underground)
What could be improved: – bad room layout – one of the bedrooms is a connecting room to the shower room
– one apartment had a tiny "kitchen" in the corridor
– loud neighbourhood (bars and restaurants)Bring ear plugs and you’ll have an amazing stay 🙂 – Jolene from Germany – 30 June 2023 (8/10)
The beds were comfortable, apartment was small but clean and had everything you need. 5 min walk from the train station & lots of bars and restaurants around!
What could be improved: It was extremely loud at night (cause of all the night life I guess) and made it impossible to sleep without ear plugs 🙁Delightful Dusseldorf – Paul from United Kingdom – 6 October 2022 (9/10)
The location of the apartment in relation to the main station, u-bahn, the Rhine, and the bars & restaurants. Apartment was clean, comfortable & well appointed. All of my party said they'd return.
What could be improved: Not really a dislike but a recommendation. I think some clearer details or a detailed map of where the apartment is positioned would be useful.Above average location in the middle of Old Town for a very reasonable price. – Borremans from Netherlands – 8 December 2024 (8/10)
Location in Old Town for a very reasonable price.
What could be improved: Curtains are in bad shape. Could not properly be closed and cannot very well keep out daylight in the morning.Good apartment – Jack from United Kingdom – 12 July 2024 (8/10)
Location
Good price compared to other offerings, but fab location and simple entry instructions. – Duncan from United Kingdom – 18 March 2024 (7/10)
Perfect location close to river, bars and trams.
What could be improved: A few slightly tired fixtures and fittingsSuperb – Ahmed from Morocco – 14 October 2023 (9/10)
The location is in the heart of Düsseldorf's old town, everything is a round and very close to metro station. The communication with the staff was easy and very helpful.
Excellent apartment – perfect for the Old Town. – Dom from United Kingdom – 26 June 2023 (8/10)
I was traveling alone and wanted an place in the Old Town so this apartment was just what I was looking for as the location is excelelnt for the river, the Old Town and it is about a 5-8 minute walk from the underground and about a 30-40 minute walk to the train station (I don't walk very fast).
The apartment has two bedrooms, one with four single beds and one with two single beds and a sofa. There is a nice kitchen, I only used the kettle so I can't comment on anything else. There is a table and some chairs in the kitchen.
The bathroom was fine with a good shower.
Despite it's location it was very quiet.
What could be improved: As a solo traveler looking for a place to sleep in the Old Town there is nothing to not like.
