But after staying here twice (once during Düsseldorf’s trade fair season and again just for a regular city break), I actually get it. The owner wasn’t being pretentious – they were just being practical.

The location on Diedenhofener Straße is one of those streets that locals know but tourists usually stumble upon by accident. You’re right in Derendorf, which honestly feels more authentic than staying in the polished Altstadt area where everyone congregates. There’s this great Turkish bakery literally two minutes away where I grabbed coffee every morning – the kind of place where the barista remembers your order after day two. The tram stop is close enough that you can hear it if you’re really listening, but not so close that it’ll wake you up. I actually appreciated that subtle city hum – reminded me I was somewhere real, you know?

What surprised me most was how the apartment manages to feel both practical and welcoming. The kitchen actually works (I made dinner twice because there’s a decent Rewe nearby), and whoever set this place up clearly thinks about what travelers need. Extra phone chargers, proper hangers, decent water pressure – small stuff that makes a huge difference when you’re tired. The 9.2 rating makes sense once you’re there; it’s not trying to be fancy, but everything functions exactly as it should. During fair season, I watched other travelers struggle with overpriced hotels that were booked solid, while I had space to spread out and decompress after long days at the exhibition halls.

The neighborhood comes alive differently depending on when you visit – during major trade shows, you’ll spot other business travelers grabbing quick dinners at the local spots, but in quieter months it’s mostly residents going about their daily routines. I loved that contrast. You can walk to the Rhine in about fifteen minutes if you want that classic Düsseldorf river experience, but you can also just hang out in the apartment and feel like you’re living somewhere rather than just passing through. The owner responds quickly to messages too, which saved me when I couldn’t figure out the building’s front door system (German apartment buildings, am I right?).

If you’re coming for the fair, this place is genuinely smart – you’ll save money and stress compared to the corporate hotels that jack up prices during exhibition season. If you’re just exploring Düsseldorf, you’ll get a real sense of how the city actually works instead of staying in the tourist bubble. Either way, it’s one of those stays where you feel like you made a good choice rather than just booked a room.

  Olivia, the super nice host, gave me a clear and concise guide for check-in on my arrival day via WhatsApp, which was helpful. She was also kind enough to come over and help me turn the heaters on. Rooms were as clean as the photos, while access to public transportation was convenient. The neighbourhood is about 15-minute away from the Dusseldorf Central Station by bus, which gives it much of peace and quiet.

  Very nicely laid out apartment, comfortable, well equipped and everything where you'd expect it to be. Looking onto the old church from the bedroom is a great view.

  Die Unterkunft ist geräumig und sauber. Alles scheint neuwertig zu sein. Gute Anbindung an Bus und Bahn.
