Honestly, when I first walked up to 17 Bülowstraße, I wasn’t expecting much – it’s this unassuming building tucked into Derendorf, which most tourists completely skip over. But you know what? That’s exactly why this little apartment works so well. The whole “one and half rooms” thing sounds weird on paper, but it actually makes perfect sense when you see it – there’s this clever little nook that serves as a separate sleeping area without feeling cramped.

The location is one of those hidden gems that locals appreciate but visitors often overlook. Derendorf sits just north of the main tourist drag, which means you’re close enough to walk into the Altstadt (maybe 15-20 minutes if you don’t mind the stroll), but far enough out that you’re not dealing with the weekend crowds stumbling past your window at 2 AM. I mean, Bülowstraße itself is pretty quiet – mostly residential with a few local cafés that actually serve decent coffee without the tourist markup. There’s this great little Turkish place around the corner that does amazing döner, and honestly, the S-Bahn connection is solid if you need to get around quickly.

What really surprised me was how thoughtfully everything’s set up inside. The owner clearly gets what travelers actually need – proper blackout curtains (thank god), a kitchen that’s small but has everything you’d actually use, and WiFi that doesn’t cut out every ten minutes. The bathroom’s compact but well-designed, and the shower pressure is surprisingly good for an older building. It gets genuinely quiet at night, which is rare in any city center area. The 9.3 rating makes total sense once you spend a night there – it’s not fancy, but everything just… works. The check-in was smooth, parking isn’t impossible to find on the street (though you’ll want to move your car on street cleaning days), and the whole vibe is just refreshingly unpretentious. If you’re the type who values a good night’s sleep and easy access to both local life and tourist spots without paying premium prices, this place delivers exactly what it promises.

  UPDATE: I originally rated this property a 5/10 based on my stay. However, after posting my review, the host contacted me and accused me of leaving a low rating because of the pet fee, which I gladly accepted and paid without issue. He also pressured me to change my rating. While the property has some positives, I would not recommend staying here due to the host’s unprofessional response to feedback.

  While this property has some positives, my experience did not align with the exceptionally high 9.5 rating, which I find misleading.
  Pros:
  – The price is reasonable for a property in a central location.
  – Conveniently located near a tram station, making travel around the city easy.
  – Noise levels were low, despite the apartment being shared with other tenants.
  – The host was responsive during our stay.
  
  What could be improved: Cons:
  – The room is small and feels even more cramped due to unnecessary decorations that take up valuable space. Simplifying the decor could make the room feel more functional and comfortable.
  – Several items, including the faucet and coat hooks, came apart during our stay, reflecting the need for sturdier fixtures.
  – The parking situation was particularly frustrating. Although the host stated that parking was available in front of the apartment, there were no spaces during our entire stay, as the street was consistently full. When I brought this up after check-out, the host explained that parking availability depends on the time. Sharing this detail upfront would have helped us plan better and avoid inconvenience.

  Tolle Rund um Betreuung. Auch das wir Verspätet durch Stau waren. Wurden wir persönlich begrüßt und Eingewiesen in die Wohnung.
