Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about The Soho Altstadt Relais? It’s tucked into this narrow street – Wallstraße – that most tourists completely miss, even though they’re literally walking parallel to it on Heinrich-Heine-Allee. I mean, you’re right in the heart of Düsseldorf’s old town, but somehow it feels like you’ve found this quiet pocket that the crowds haven’t discovered yet. The building itself has that solid, unpretentious German hotel vibe – nothing flashy, but you can tell it’s been here a while and knows what it’s doing. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, no drawn-out sales pitch about spa packages or breakfast upgrades.
What really sells this place is the location, honestly. You’re a two-minute walk from the Rhine promenade, which is perfect for those evening strolls when the river catches the last light. But here’s the thing locals know – you’re also incredibly close to the good stuff that isn’t on every tourist map. There’s this fantastic little bakery around the corner on Berger Straße that does these incredible sourdough pretzels (grab one before they sell out around 10 AM), and you’re walking distance to some of the better breweries in the Altstadt without being right on top of the weekend party chaos. The rooms are… well, they’re what you’d expect from a solid 3-star in Germany. Clean, functional, with that slightly firm bedding that somehow always guarantees a good night’s sleep. The bathrooms are compact but well-designed – actually, better than some 4-star places I’ve stayed where they prioritize marble over practicality.
I’ll be honest, this isn’t the kind of place that’s going to wow you with fancy amenities or Instagram-worthy lobby art. But sometimes that’s exactly what you want, you know? The staff genuinely seems to care about helping you figure out the neighborhood rather than just processing your payment. They pointed me toward this tiny wine bar – Weinhaus Tante Anna – that I never would have found on my own, and it ended up being one of those perfect evenings where you’re chatting with locals and completely lose track of time. The 7.6 rating makes sense to me – it’s doing everything right without trying to be something it’s not. If you’re the type who needs a pool and room service, look elsewhere. But if you want a comfortable base in one of Germany’s most walkable city centers, with easy access to both the tourist highlights and the spots where actual Düsseldorfers hang out, this place delivers. Plus, parking is surprisingly manageable for this part of the city, which anyone who’s driven in German city centers will appreciate.

Very cozy, heated floor made my day. Perfect location in the centre of the city. Coffee machine, kitchen in room.
Good place to stay for a short trip – Rex-marten from Germany – 17 November 2024 (7/10)
Its very central in the middle of the old city
What could be improved: Its to loud, u can hear every guest passing by your room in the night because the rooms are all facing the stairs and everyone living one or two stairs above have to passNi – Natalie from United Kingdom – 11 October 2024 (8/10)
The staff were very helpful, making the room ready for me early as requested so I could drop off my bags. The room was clean and the mattress comfortable. The temperature in the room was good and the shower worked well
What could be improved: I would have like a firmer pillow or perhaps 2 of them. I would have preferred a bigger shower, but it was useable.1 night in Dusseldorf – Marek from Slovakia – 30 August 2024 (9/10)
The hotel is very centrally located, 2 minutes walk from Rathaus. The room was well equipped, clean and comfortable. There is no staff at the hotel, meaning everyone needs to self check-in via app / website. But this is very clearly communicated by the hotel and the process is very easy. I enjoyed my stay and would return to The Soho Hotel when in Dusseldorf next time.
Convenience the key. – Gimlet17 from Ireland – 26 August 2024 (8/10)
Location. <5 mins max from tram, train, bus.
What could be improved: 3 flights stairs (minor issue)Great value for money – Ziya from Netherlands – 26 July 2024 (8/10)
The apartment was very comfortable and quiet even though the location was right in the middle of the city center. The bed was comfortable and the shower was great.
What could be improved: The room was quite hot, however, I knew this before booking as there was no airco available. With the windows open it was okay. The staff put something like a little airfreshener in the room, which was a bit helpful. Next to that, the ventilation in the bathroom was not working properly.Very good – Aidan from Ireland – 12 July 2024 (8/10)
Clean room
Nice touches in room..smells, flowers etc
What could be improved: Difficult to find hotel, poorly signposted and no larger sign outside especially as only accessible on footSuperb – Elena from Moldova – 22 June 2024 (9/10)
Excelent placement!
What could be improved: A bit noisy in the mornings.
