You know what caught me off guard about Tolstov Apartments? The name makes it sound way more formal than it actually is – this place is honestly just solid, no-nonsense apartment-style accommodation that gets the job done really well. I mean, when you’re looking at a 3-star place with an 8.7 rating, you’re expecting something decent, but these guys have figured out exactly what business travelers and longer-stay visitors actually need.

The location on Oberbilker Allee is one of those spots that doesn’t look like much on a map, but once you’re there, you realize how smart it is. Oberbilk isn’t the prettiest district in Düsseldorf – let’s be real about that – but it’s incredibly practical. You can actually get to Messe Düsseldorf in about 15 minutes without dealing with the crazy traffic around the fairgrounds, which anyone who’s tried to navigate there during a big trade show will appreciate. And honestly, the 10-minute hop to the Altstadt is no joke either. I’ve stayed in places that claimed to be “close to Old Town” and ended up schlepping for half an hour with my luggage.

What really works here is that they offer both 1-room and 4-room setups, so whether you’re flying solo on business or dealing with a whole team situation, you’re covered. The apartments feel more like actual living spaces than hotel rooms – you get proper kitchenettes (not those sad mini-fridges with a microwave situation), real seating areas where you can spread out your work, and enough space to unpack properly if you’re staying more than a couple nights. The whole setup just makes sense if you’re not planning to spend every waking moment sightseeing. Parking isn’t a nightmare either, which in Düsseldorf is honestly half the battle won right there.

The neighborhood has that authentic German residential vibe – you’ll hear trams rumbling by pretty regularly, and there’s always some construction noise during the day (it’s a growing area), but evenings are surprisingly quiet. There are some decent Turkish and Italian spots within walking distance, plus a Rewe if you want to stock up on basics. Nothing fancy, but you know what? Sometimes you just want to grab a decent döner and not think about it. The whole area feels safe and lived-in, not touristy at all – which means you’re getting real local prices for food and drinks instead of Old Town markup.

  What could be improved: Pillows where a bit to soft for our taste. This other point has nothing to do with the apartment but might be good to mention that parking was free but it was very difficult to find a spot.

  Just 5 min walk to the Mitsubishi Halle, it is walk distance for children too.

  What could be improved: WiFi occasionally didn't work and the host contacted us for fixing it – no big deal though.

  The kitchen is enough for everything. There is large refrigarator. There is washing machine, iron, etc in the room.
  
  What could be improved: Pillows are large but very thin. The door of the bath cabin dont close properly.
