You know what caught me off guard about the Tolstov Apartments? The name makes it sound way fancier than it actually is – and I mean that in the best possible way. This isn’t some stuffy hotel trying to impress you with marble lobbies. Instead, you get these really solid 2 or 3-room apartments that feel more like borrowing a friend’s place in Düsseldorf than staying in typical tourist accommodation.

The location in Flingern-Sued is honestly perfect if you know anything about getting around Düsseldorf. I mean, everyone talks about staying right in the Altstadt, but you’ll pay through the nose and deal with drunk tourists stumbling past your window at 2 AM. Here on Behrenstraße, you’re in this quiet residential area that still feels authentically German – you’ll hear neighbors chatting in the courtyard, smell fresh bread from the bakery down the street in the mornings. The 10-minute thing to Old Town isn’t marketing fluff either; I timed it walking at a normal pace, maybe 12 minutes if you stop to grab coffee. And that 15-minute claim to the Messe? Actually more like 10-12 minutes by U-Bahn, which is clutch if you’re here for trade shows and don’t want to deal with expensive downtown hotels during busy exhibition periods.

What really works about these apartments is the space – you actually have room to spread out your stuff, cook a proper meal if you want (the kitchens are surprisingly well-equipped), and not feel like you’re living out of a suitcase. The 9.4 rating makes sense when you experience it; it’s not trying to be a luxury experience, but everything just works properly. Hot water stays hot, Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out during video calls, and the beds are comfortable without being fancy. I stayed in a 3-room setup and honestly could’ve hosted friends for dinner if I’d wanted to. The only minor thing is that some of the furniture feels a bit IKEA-standard, but you know what? It’s clean, functional, and way more space than you’d get in a traditional hotel room for the price. Plus, there’s something refreshing about staying somewhere that feels like real people live in the neighborhood, not just a tourist bubble.

  Geräumige Wohnung in renovierten Zustand. Ausstattung wie beschrieben. Sanitäre Einrichtungen auch neu. Betten zweckmäßig und sehr federnden Matratzen (Metallfedern. Die Gruppefand das als den negativsten Punkt). Kissen mir persönlich nicht passend.
  Küche relativ gut ausgestattet und neu.
  Übergabe des Schlüssels über eine Box (gut). Kommunikation mit dem Vermieter vorbildlich
