Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw the name “Tolstov Apartments” I wasn’t expecting much, but this place actually surprised me in the best way. It’s tucked away on Auf’m Hennekamp in Bilk, which honestly feels like the kind of neighborhood where actual Düsseldorfers live rather than where tourists usually end up. And you know what? That’s exactly why it works so well.

The apartments themselves are refreshingly straightforward – no fancy lobby trying to impress you, just clean, well-thought-out spaces that feel like someone actually lives there (in a good way). I mean, you’ve got proper kitchenettes with everything you need, not those sad little coffee corners some places try to pass off as “kitchens.” The one-bedroom worked perfectly for me, though I could see how the two-bedroom setup would be great for families or if you’re traveling with friends who don’t drive each other crazy. What really struck me was how quiet it gets at night – Bilk isn’t exactly sleepy, but this particular street seems to dodge most of the traffic noise. The 9 rating makes sense once you’re there; it’s not luxury, but everything just… works, which honestly beats a fancy hotel where half the stuff is broken.

Here’s the thing that’ll actually matter to you: the location is genuinely useful, not just “convenient” in that meaningless way travel sites always claim. You’re about 15 minutes from both the Messe and the Altstadt, but more importantly, you’re right in the middle of real Düsseldorf life. There’s a solid bakery two blocks down that opens ridiculously early (perfect if you’re jet-lagged), and the tram connections are actually reliable – take the 701 or 706 and you’re basically anywhere you want to be without dealing with driving in the city center. I walked to the Rhine promenade one evening and it took maybe 20 minutes through some really nice residential streets. Plus, and this might sound weird, but grocery shopping felt normal here – there’s an REWE nearby where you can grab actual food instead of surviving on hotel breakfast and tourist restaurant prices. The whole area has this lived-in feeling that makes you feel less like a tourist and more like you’re just temporarily living somewhere interesting. If you’re coming for the trade fair, you’ll appreciate not being stuck in some sterile business hotel, and if you’re here to explore the city, you’re positioned perfectly to do it like a local rather than bouncing between the obvious tourist spots.

  The place is well equiped, all pretty clean, and had a great heating system, this is so important when you go to a cold country. The location is well if you are able to take different transport ways to the old city, its in the suburbs, but if you want to be next to the most crowded zones this is not your place.

  Close to the center by public transport, the nearest stop is a minute away. Close to the supermarket.
