Honestly, when I first walked up to the Tolstov Apartments on Kreuzstraße, I wasn’t sure what to expect – the building looks pretty standard from the outside, you know, typical Düsseldorf architecture. But once you get inside this five-room setup, it’s actually a really solid choice if you’re planning to stay in Stadtmitte for more than just a night or two.

The location is what really got me. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of everything – I could walk to the Rheinuferpromenade in about eight minutes (I timed it because I’m weird like that), and there’s this great little bakery two blocks down that opens at 6 AM if you’re an early riser. The apartment itself feels more like staying at a friend’s place than a hotel, which some people love and others… well, might prefer room service. The five rooms give you actual space to spread out, and I found myself using the kitchen way more than I thought I would. There’s something nice about making coffee in the morning instead of hunting for a decent café before you’re fully awake.

What surprised me most was how quiet it stays at night, considering you’re smack in the center of town. The windows are actually pretty good at keeping out the street noise – though if you’re here during Karneval season, all bets are off. The ten-minute thing to Messe DUS is no joke either; I walked it once just to see, and it’s closer to eight minutes if you walk at a normal pace. Super handy if you’re here for trade shows and don’t want to deal with taxis every morning. The U-Bahn is right there too, so getting around the city is ridiculously easy. I spent one afternoon just hopping between neighborhoods because everything felt so accessible. One thing to note – parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this area, so if you’re driving, maybe check with them ahead of time about options nearby.
