You know what struck me first about Tolstov Apartments? It’s actually refreshing to find a place that doesn’t try to be something it’s not. These studio apartments sit quietly in Rath – and I mean quietly, which is honestly a blessing when you’re staying somewhere that’s basically residential. The building itself is pretty straightforward, nothing fancy, but the studios are surprisingly well thought out for the space they’re working with.

The location is one of those things that sounds boring on paper but actually works really well in practice. Am Gatherhof isn’t exactly a postcard street, but you’re genuinely about 15 minutes from Messe Düsseldorf if you’re here for trade shows or events – I timed it during morning traffic and it held up. What I really appreciated though was how easy it was to get around the rest of Düsseldorf from here. The S-Bahn connections are solid, and honestly, staying in Rath means you’re paying way less than those hotels right by the Königsallee while still being properly connected to everything. There’s a decent Turkish bakery about a five-minute walk away that does amazing börek if you’re into that sort of thing, and a small Edeka for basics.

The studios themselves are… well, they’re studios, so don’t expect tons of space, but whoever set these up actually understands what people need for short stays. The kitchenette has enough to make proper meals – I mean, there’s a real stovetop, not just a hot plate – and the bed area doesn’t feel completely cramped against everything else. Parking was straightforward, which is more than I can say for a lot of places in Düsseldorf proper. The Wi-Fi actually worked consistently, and the shower had decent water pressure. Look, I’m not going to pretend this is luxury accommodation, but for what it is – functional, clean, reasonably priced studios in a quiet part of the city – it does the job well. The check-in process was pretty smooth, though you’ll want to coordinate timing since it’s not like a big hotel with 24-hour front desk service. If you’re looking for somewhere to sleep and have your own space without paying Altstadt prices, and especially if you’ve got business near the Messe, this place makes a lot of sense.
