Hotel Description

So I ended up at the Trip Inn Hotel Esplanade in Düsseldorf’s Friedrichstadt district, and honestly? It’s one of those places that grows on you. First impression walking up to Fürstenplatz 17 was pretty solid – there’s this classic German hotel vibe without being stuffy about it. The building has character, you know what I mean? Not some cookie-cutter chain property.

What I really appreciated was how the staff actually seemed to know the neighborhood. When I asked about getting to the Rhine promenade, the guy at the front desk didn’t just point vaguely – he told me the specific tram stop and mentioned that if I walked down Bilker Allee instead of taking the main route, I’d hit this little café that locals frequent. That kind of insider knowledge makes a difference. The rooms are comfortable enough, though don’t expect anything revolutionary. Clean, functional, decent shower pressure (always important after a long day of walking around). I mean, it’s a solid 4-star experience – they deliver what they promise without trying to oversell you on luxury you’re not paying for.

Location-wise, Friedrichstadt is actually pretty sweet if you want to feel like you’re staying somewhere real rather than tourist central. You’re close enough to the Altstadt when you want that classic Düsseldorf experience, but you can also just wander the local streets and stumble into authentic German life. There’s a bakery literally around the corner that opens ridiculously early – perfect if you’re dealing with jet lag and find yourself awake at 6 AM craving actual German bread. The tram connections are decent, though honestly, I ended up walking more than I expected because the neighborhood is just pleasant to explore. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle (welcome to any German city center), but the hotel staff helped sort that out without making it feel like a huge ordeal.

Look, this isn’t the fanciest place in Düsseldorf, and that 7.4 rating feels about right – it’s good, not mind-blowing. But sometimes you want a place that just works well without any drama. The Trip Inn Esplanade delivers on that front. It’s the kind of hotel where you check in, drop your bags, and then actually go experience the city instead of hanging around the lobby. Which, let’s be honest, is probably what you came to Düsseldorf for anyway.

Reviews

  • Excellent hotel! – Marco from Netherlands – 2 March 2025 (8/10)

Booked this hotel for the 2nd time and will book again for future trips to Düsseldorf. The hotel is located close to the city centre. Excellent, clean room with an amazing, spacious bathroom. Breakfast buffet is quite good with lots of variety to suit everyone’s needs.

  • Good price – Erhan from Turkey – 11 August 2024 (8/10)

    Comfortable beds, good breakfast

What could be improved: No minibar in the family room (no fridge)

  • Very good – Robert from Netherlands – 26 December 2023 (8/10)

very nice hotel! for me it was the first time that they serviced caffee in the lobby and this was tasting very nice.

  • Very good – Natalija from Serbia – 10 December 2023 (8/10)

    It was clean

  • Enjoyable, will stay there again – Walter from United Kingdom – 24 October 2023 (8/10)

Hotel a bit dated but still pleasant and in a nice area, guys on reception very helpful/friendly, easy parking for motorcycle out front, very likely to stay again in future, nice breakfast.

What could be improved: restaurant would have been nice

  • Comfortable – Chen from Germany – 2 October 2023 (8/10)

Relative big room, the bed is not very soft but I really liked it, rund the hour front-desk service, good diversity of breakfast, quite and easy to found.

What could be improved: We were asked twice our room number before and during our breakfast – can understand but is this really necessary? At 11 o‘clock on the day of check-our, a personnel nocked our room‘s door and I answered and opened the door almost immediately but the person just disappeared.

  • Cosy room – with a view to oldtown – Barmalėjus from Germany – 14 August 2023 (8/10)

    Good location, cafes nearby..

What could be improved: Church bells begin bangin' early in the morning, like from 7:00 A.M. So be prepared.. It's Germany. Oh, and remote control needs batteries to be changed..

  • Despite some disadvantages, I would recommend this hotel for the others – Mark from Germany – 11 June 2023 (8/10)

Friendly stuff, clean room, reception 24/7, close to the Train Station

What could be improved: No air conditioning, it gets really hot and stuffy in room. The hotel is located near the small square and a bell tower. In the morning bells ring (from 7 am) and in the night people gather in the square, so it is pretty loud in both cases.
Wi-Fi connection is slow or sometimes doesn't work at all.

  • Very good – Nitu from Netherlands – 19 February 2023 (8/10)

What could be improved: parking not available

  • Nice basic hotel, friendly staff, good breakfast. – Emily from United Kingdom – 18 February 2023 (8/10)

Friendly staff, nice family room. Good WiFi. Good breakfast.

What could be improved: Sound proofing was bad and people coming in late at night was noisy.
Guests were smoking in their rooms as the smell seeped out into corridors.
