Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about this place on Cimbernstraße? It’s tucked into one of those tree-lined streets in Oberkassel where you actually hear birds in the morning instead of traffic. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from the Rhine promenade, but it feels like you’ve found this quiet pocket that most tourists completely miss.
The apartment itself – and honestly, calling it a hotel feels weird because it’s really more like staying at a friend’s well-appointed place – sits in this classic Düsseldorf building that’s got character without being stuffy. The windows are these tall, old-school ones that let in incredible light, especially in the afternoons when the sun hits just right. What I loved is how the owner clearly lives in Düsseldorf and knows what actually matters. There’s proper coffee equipment (not those sad hotel pods), the shower has real water pressure, and the bed is positioned so you’re not staring at some random wall when you wake up. Small things, but they add up.
Oberkassel is one of those neighborhoods that locals love but visitors often overlook because it’s across the river from the Altstadt. Big mistake, really. You’ve got the Rheinturm literally glowing across the water at night – I spent way too much time just watching it from the riverside walk. During the day, you can wander down to Belsenplatz for actual groceries and cafes where people aren’t speaking English, which honestly feels refreshing after dealing with the tourist crowds downtown. The U-Bahn connection is solid too; Luegplatz station gets you anywhere you need to go, though I found myself walking more than expected because the riverfront path is just too nice to skip. Pro tip: if you’re here during summer, the locals do this thing where they bring chairs and little tables down to the Rhine around sunset. Join them – bring some wine from the Rewe on Luegallee and you’ll have the best evening view in the city for basically nothing.
