You know what struck me first about the Air Hotel Wartburg? It’s actually in Lohausen, which means you’re literally a few minutes from Düsseldorf Airport – and I mean that in the best way possible. Sure, you might think “airport hotel” and picture some soulless corporate box, but this place has more character than you’d expect from a 3-star spot.

The location on Niederrheinstr is honestly pretty clever if you know the area. You’re close enough to catch early flights without that 5 AM panic, but far enough from the main terminal chaos that you’re not hearing announcements all night. I stayed here twice – once for a connection, once just because it made sense for exploring Düsseldorf without dealing with city center prices. The rooms aren’t huge, but they’ve got this clean, no-nonsense vibe that works. The beds are actually comfortable (hotel beds are such a gamble, aren’t they?), and the bathrooms have decent water pressure, which honestly matters more than fancy marble when you’re tired.

What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to get that most guests are either coming or going somewhere. Check-in was smooth both times – no lengthy speeches about amenities I won’t use. There’s parking that doesn’t cost a fortune, which is rare around Düsseldorf. The breakfast is solid, nothing fancy but they know their audience: people who need real food before traveling or after landing somewhere new. I mean, the coffee’s better than airplane coffee (low bar, I know), and they had actual local bread, not just those weird international hotel rolls. The 7.6 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be the Ritz, but it does what it promises well. If you’re flying through Düsseldorf or need a base that’s connected but not crazy expensive, it’s honestly a smart choice. Just don’t expect a rooftop bar or anything – this is about location, comfort, and getting where you need to go without stress.

  Staff – people at the registration deck, cleaners, restaurant workers at breakfast – very friendly and nice. Amazing location, not so far from Merkur-Spiel Arena, as well as from Dusseldorf airport. Calm cozy place to rest.

  Wifi was great, big and confortable rooms very clean and staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast could be slightly better for the price, but all the necessary was provided, the fresh bread was amazing.

  Initial impressions on drawing up outside was that it looked a little run down dirty. However as soon as we entered reception we could tell it was clean and well kept. Friendly staff always available and helpful. Room in the annex was large, clean and comfortable. Did not realise breakfast was included in the price which was a welcome bonus. Typical German frühstück with a range of bread rolls, cold meats, cereals, eggs etc and very good coffee. Very good value. Close to the Ubahn which takes approx 15 minutes into the city centre for €3.4 single but better value tickets are available. Use the machine on the train to pay.
