Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to the Airport Messe Hotel on Lohauser Dorfstr, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s one of those classic 3-star places that looks pretty standard from the outside, but you know what? Sometimes those are exactly the spots that surprise you.

The thing about this place is it’s actually perfectly positioned if you know Düsseldorf at all. You’re right in Lohausen, which means you can hear the planes if you’re a light sleeper (though honestly, they’re not that bad – more like distant white noise), but here’s the kicker: you’re literally minutes from the airport without being stuck in some soulless airport hotel complex. I mean, when I had that early morning flight to Amsterdam, I could practically roll out of bed and make it to check-in with time to spare. But what really got me was how easy it was to zip into the city center – the S-Bahn connections are way better than you’d think from this address.

The rooms are… well, they’re what you’d expect for a solid 3-star, but the staff actually knows their stuff. The guy at reception (I think his name was Klaus?) gave me this whole rundown about avoiding the main roads during rush hour and pointed me toward this little bakery just down the street that honestly had better pretzels than half the places in Altstadt. The parking situation is refreshingly straightforward too – none of that cramped underground garage nonsense where you’re playing automotive Tetris with your rental car. What struck me most was how the place felt genuinely local rather than touristy. You’ll see business travelers, sure, but also families visiting relatives and people who clearly know this area well. The breakfast room has this lived-in feeling where conversations happen in three different languages and nobody’s trying too hard to impress anyone.

I stayed during Messe season (mistake – book way ahead if you’re planning that), and even when the place was packed, it never felt chaotic. The soundproofing between rooms is actually decent, which matters more than you’d think when you’re dealing with people coming and going at all hours for flights and trade shows. The 7.8 rating makes sense to me – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it does everything it promises without any unpleasant surprises. If you’re the type who needs to be walking distance from the Königsallee or wants to stumble home from the Altstadt after too many Altbiers, this probably isn’t your spot. But if you want a reliable base that feels more like staying in an actual German neighborhood rather than tourist central, and you value being able to get anywhere in the city (or to the airport) without the usual Düsseldorf traffic headaches, this place delivers exactly what it should.

  15 minute walk to the England vs Switzerland game in the Arena Dussledorf and about an hour walk straight into the heart of Dusseldorf down the rhine, friendly staff, clean room, free water on arrival and very quiet at night which is exactly what you want!
  
  What could be improved: Although the planes are only allowed to operate between 5am-11pm you are right under the flight path and by right under I mean they're 20ft above your room, also the S-Bahn was a bit of a walk (about 15 mins, mostly flat) and there really isn't alot todo around the area especially on a Sunday where everything is closed!
