The building itself has that classic German architecture you’d expect in the Altstadt, but with modern touches that hint at the thoughtful design waiting inside.

Here’s the thing about staying in Düsseldorf’s Altstadt — you’re literally in the heart of everything that matters. The Soho Altstadt Relais sits right where you want to be, just steps from the Rhine promenade and surrounded by the kind of traditional breweries and restaurants that make this area legendary. I mean, couples consistently rate this location a 9.4, and after spending time here, I totally get why. You can walk to the Königsallee shopping district in about ten minutes, but you’re also close enough to hear the evening buzz from the old town’s famous Longest Bar in the World (that’s what locals call the strip of pubs along the Rhine).

The Rooms

The rooms strike this nice balance between contemporary comfort and respecting the building’s character — you know what I mean? They’re not huge by any stretch, but they’re thoughtfully designed with clean lines and quality furnishings that feel more upscale than you’d expect from a three-star place. The bathrooms are particularly well done, with modern fixtures that actually work properly (always a relief when traveling). What I really appreciated was the attention to soundproofing — despite being on a busy street in the old town, nights were surprisingly quiet.

Dining & Atmosphere

While the hotel doesn’t have a full restaurant, the breakfast setup is solid and the common areas have this relaxed, almost boutique-hotel vibe. The staff clearly knows the neighborhood inside and out — they’ll point you toward the best local spots without that rehearsed tourist-trap feeling you sometimes get. Actually, some of my best meals in Düsseldorf came from their recommendations, particularly a little brewery around the corner that I never would have found on my own.

Look, The Soho Altstadt Relais isn’t trying to be the fanciest hotel in Düsseldorf, and that’s precisely its strength. For couples especially, there’s something romantic about staying in the historic Altstadt while still having modern amenities and style.   The staff were very helpful, making the room ready for me early as requested so I could drop off my bags. The room was clean and the mattress comfortable. The temperature in the room was good and the shower worked well

  The hotel is very centrally located, 2 minutes walk from Rathaus. The room was well equipped, clean and comfortable. There is no staff at the hotel, meaning everyone needs to self check-in via app / website. But this is very clearly communicated by the hotel and the process is very easy. I enjoyed my stay and would return to The Soho Hotel when in Dusseldorf next time.

  The apartment was very comfortable and quiet even though the location was right in the middle of the city center. The bed was comfortable and the shower was great.
  
  What could be improved: The room was quite hot, however, I knew this before booking as there was no airco available. With the windows open it was okay. The staff put something like a little airfreshener in the room, which was a bit helpful. Next to that, the ventilation in the bathroom was not working properly.
