Hotel Description
So I stumbled onto AVI City Burgplatz Apartments during a work trip to Düsseldorf, and honestly? It’s one of those places that grows on you. The building sits right on Burgplatz – and I mean right on it – which sounds fancy until you realize you’re basically living above one of the most tourist-heavy squares in the Altstadt. But here’s the thing: that location is actually kind of brilliant once you figure out how to work with it.
The apartments themselves are pretty straightforward – this is definitely a 3-star situation, so don’t expect marble countertops or anything. But the space feels genuinely livable, not like those cramped hotel boxes where you’re bumping into furniture every five minutes. I had a second-floor unit (they’re all on the second floor, actually), and the windows are these old-school European ones that you can swing wide open. Pro tip: do this in the early morning before the square gets busy – there’s something really nice about having coffee while watching the city wake up. By noon though, you’ll want them closed unless you enjoy the soundtrack of tour groups and street musicians.
What I really appreciated was how the place doesn’t try to be something it’s not. The kitchen setup is basic but functional – I made pasta a couple times and managed just fine. The shower has decent pressure, which honestly matters more than people admit when you’re dealing with European plumbing. And the Wi-Fi actually works, which… well, you know how that goes sometimes in older buildings. The 7.1 rating makes sense to me – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it delivers on what it promises without any nasty surprises.
Location-wise, if you want to explore the Altstadt properly, you really can’t do much better. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of it. Schlossturm is maybe a two-minute walk, and you can hit the Rhine promenade without breaking a sweat. The downside is parking – forget about it unless you want to pay through the nose. I ended up using the park-and-ride system from outside the city center, which worked fine but adds some planning time. Also, weekend nights can get pretty lively on the square below. I’m not talking room-shaking party noise, but there’s definitely a hum of activity that light sleepers might notice.
The check-in process was refreshingly straightforward – none of that overly complicated key-pickup drama you sometimes get with apartment rentals. And the building itself has character without being falling-apart charming, if that makes sense. You get those thick walls and high ceilings that make you feel like you’re staying somewhere with actual history, but the utilities work like they should in 2024. For the price point and what you’re getting – essentially your own little base camp in prime Düsseldorf real estate – it’s honestly pretty solid. Just pack some earplugs if you’re sensitive to city sounds, and maybe don’t plan on cooking elaborate meals.

Reviews
Overall, Vitaly and Natalia made everything wonderful through their good customer service and concern. At the end, this – Pierre from United States – 1 December 2022 (8/10)
I had a rough start because I ended up getting the 3rd Floor which looked nothing like the reservations of the 2nd Floor, and a few days of a weak Wi-Fi signal because I was on the 3rd Floor, but after a few days of contacting their staff and Booking.com, I ended up getting a slight refund and my accommodations corrected. so regardless of a rough start, it ended up being a very nice stay once we got to the 2nd Floor.
What could be improved: the 3rd floor having weak Wi-Fi signal, and the 3rd floor. the 2nd Floor was magical and we loved it. it stairs was a rough climb with luggage and groceries.Good – Zdeněk from Czech Republic – 6 February 2025 (7/10)
Good app
What could be improved: No parking, on streets only zones and all fullNice – Clara from Germany – 2 July 2023 (8/10)
Nice location other all a very good furnishing
What could be improved: Missing kitchen towels and no trash can in the bathroomGreat location, facilities OK, suited to the young and fit. – Pieter from Australia – 5 August 2022 (6/10)
A great location in the Altstadt with a view of Burgplatz and other landmarks including the Rhine. The apartment was spacious and the Wi-Fi worked well.
What could be improved: We had to climb 3 flights of stairs with heavy luggage as there was no lift. The PIN number and codes for the lockbox were only emailed on the day of our arrival and as we had no Wi-Fi access on the day we were travelling there, it caused us a lot of delay and stress trying to work out how to get in, especially on a Sunday. It would have been better to supply us that access information prior to the day of our arrival.
The entrance area downstairs was quite grubby. It and the stairway looked rather run-down, not very welcoming.
The lighting in the bathroom was rather dim, though the facilities were OK.Was fine – Hisham from Germany – 24 June 2025 (10/10)
The location is central and the flat is big and good
What could be improved: There is no elevator
And the skill at the Enterance is strong from the Shisha bar nearbyHowever it’s still a lot preferable to a stuffy boxed in corporate hotel. We are in one now and it was definitely a nic – Jacqueline from United Kingdom – 6 May 2023 (5/10)
The apartment was in a really lovely location with lots of cafes, pubs, restaurants and historical and modern sites to see. We had a beautiful view from our windows across the Rhine and to the
Schifffahrt Maritime Museum which is close by.
What could be improved: The apartment was in a really lovely location with lots of cafes, pubs, restaurants and historical and modern sites to see. However there were a few issues with the apartment, some minor and some not so minor which would make the accommodation much more acceptable and better value for money.
– The key safe is on the right of the front door (not left). Not a big deal but this threw us slightly.
– A broken TV, to be fair this was renewed quickly after 2 phone calls, but I was surprised we had to ask as it was lying unplugged and with a broken socket.
– The internet instructions are wrong – there was no such thing as the wifi ID stated.
– A bed broke whilst we were there.
– There is no hot water in the kitchen.
– The kettle is faulty – it wouldn’t turn off automatically and hissed steam at us the first time we went to use it.
– There is no hairdryer.
– There is no bottle opener.
Fix these, some of them very basic, and the flat will be a lot better.Superb – James from United Kingdom – 5 March 2024 (9/10)
Good Location
Great central location but VERY loud. Could have had better furnishings for the cost of the rental. – Charmaine from Germany – 16 January 2023 (5/10)
Location was amazing !
What could be improved: The pics were of the other, nicer apartment than the one we ended up renting. In the end was not so important but we were dissapointed in the beginning because there was no real dinner table for us to eat on. Just two old school desks pushed together. We had a group of old friends together for the first time to visit and the circumstances were not what we expected.Noona from Finland – 23 March 2023 (1/10)
هادئ و مريح – Suliman from Germany – 5 March 2023 (8/10)
المكان مريح و هادئ رغم وقوعه وسط المدينة و كافة الخدمات ممتازة
What could be improved: هناك صعوبة (كما بقية مراكز المدن ) في تأمين موقف سيارة قريب فالمكان لا يوجد موقف خاص
