City Apartments Old Town Düsseldorf Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to City Apartments Old Town Düsseldorf on Bolkerstraße, you immediately get that “I’m in the heart of it all” feeling. The building sits right in Düsseldorf’s Altstadt — what locals call the “longest bar in the world” — and honestly, the location couldn’t be better. This four-star property manages to feel both modern and authentically German, which isn’t always easy to pull off in such a historic neighborhood. You know what strikes me most? How they’ve maintained that old-world charm while giving you all the comforts of a contemporary stay.
Location & Neighborhood
I mean, couples rate this location 9.6 out of 10 for good reason — you’re literally surrounded by cobblestone streets, traditional breweries, and that quintessential Rhine atmosphere. Step outside and you’re maybe two minutes from the riverfront promenade, where you can watch the boats drift by while sipping an Altbier. The Königsallee shopping district is just a short walk away if you’re into that sort of thing, but honestly, I found myself just wandering the narrow streets around the hotel most evenings. There’s something magical about being in the actual old town rather than looking at it from some distant business district hotel.
The Apartment Experience
These aren’t your typical hotel rooms — they’re proper apartments with kitchenettes and living areas that actually make sense. The spaces feel thoughtfully designed, not just thrown together like some extended-stay places I’ve experienced. What I really appreciated was having a proper coffee setup in the morning (the German coffee culture is no joke), plus enough space to spread out after long days exploring the city. The furnishings strike that sweet spot between upscale and comfortable — you won’t feel like you’re staying in someone’s sterile showroom.
Practical Comforts
The apartment-style setup means you can grab groceries from the local markets and actually prepare simple meals if you want a break from restaurant dining. I found this particularly nice for breakfast — there’s something satisfying about making your own coffee and planning the day from your own little kitchen. The Wi-Fi works reliably (always a concern when you’re trying to navigate a new city), and the overall maintenance feels solid. It’s those small details that make a difference when you’re staying somewhere for more than just a night or two.
Why Guests Love It
Look, with a 9.5 location score, City Apartments Old Town Düsseldorf has clearly figured out what travelers actually want — you’re not just visiting Düsseldorf, you’re living in it for a few days. The combination of being steps away from the best breweries and restaurants while having your own space to retreat to creates this perfect balance. Whether you’re here for a romantic getaway (hence those high couple ratings) or just want to experience the real Altstadt without the tourist hotel feel, this place delivers on that promise of being genuinely embedded in the neighborhood rather than just observing it from the outside.
Dusseldorf hotels keep guests close to Kunstpalast halls, craft breweries, and Rhine embankment walks.

Ideal accomodation for a group of friends, good beds, good shower, good location
What could be improved: A bit tiny, so you cannot stay too long on the appartment. But that was no issue for us.Good, Decent, Great Location – Sagar from India – 13 December 2024 (6/10)
location was best
What could be improved: collection of key

Best location in the old town
Great central location & very clean – Chloet64 from Australia – 4 November 2024 (10/10)
The apartment is located right in the center of the old town. It is close to everything you will need;: the subway, restaurants, cafes, bars, supermarkets (Aldi) and bakeries! They are all just a few minutes walk away. You don't need a car! And it was super clean!
The apartment has a very small kitchen with a fridge, hotplate and crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils. This is really great if you are like us and prefer to self-cater and prepare your own meals.
We did not meet the owner. But they were prompt to answer all of our questions via email.
We picked up the key from a box with a code. It was easy and there was no problems with gaining entry to the building.
We had a really great four day stay with no problems, And would be happy to stay with them again when visiting Dusseldorf.
What could be improved: The only problem we had was that the apartment often became very hot and stuffy. Although it was cool outside we kept the windows open and used the fan for our entire stay. The second room with the two bunk beds (where we stored our suitcases) was like a sauna.
Our stay began on a Sunday and finished on a Wednesday. The first three nights were very quiet. But it got a bit rowdy when the Pub opened on the Wednesday evening. But we just closed the windows which drained out most of the noise. I imagine that it could get very noisy on the weekend!Superb – Julius from Lithuania – 9 October 2024 (9/10)
Location is perfect, straight in old town, and quite quite as windows was towards backyard. All rest was good, clean, cozy
What could be improved: Materace is hardPleasant – Sofia from Germany – 30 August 2024 (6/10)
Location
What could be improved: It was almost impossible to sleep because of the noice outside. We stayed in summer and without air conditioning it was absolutely impossible to sleep. One room doesn’t have windows what makes it super depressing and in another room there were not proper curtains and you can’t sleep there because of the light from the outside.Property is in an excellent location for the bars, not suitable for a family with children due to the noise. – Mark from United Kingdom – 4 July 2024 (8/10)
Location was great for a group of lads.
What could be improved: Room with the bunk beds were on the small side and had no air conditioning, room got stuffy.Pleasant – Sam from United Kingdom – 24 June 2024 (6/10)
Fantastic location in the middle of the old town. Good for a short stay.
What could be improved: Unfortunately as this was during the European championships the apartment was very loud making it almost impossible to sleep before 2am.
Very small apartment, shower room flooded quickly meaning a shower had to last a maximum of 2 mins.
