Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about the Concorde Hotel Ascot? It’s actually tucked away in Gerresheim, which honestly feels more like a quiet residential neighborhood than your typical hotel district. When I first pulled up to Schönaustraße 15, I wasn’t sure I was in the right place – it’s this surprisingly peaceful street lined with local shops and cafes that most tourists never stumble across. The hotel itself has that solid, unpretentious vibe of a well-maintained 3-star place that’s been around long enough to know what it’s doing. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, no fuss, and the staff seemed genuinely local rather than that polished-but-distant hotel chain energy you get elsewhere.

Here’s the thing about staying in Gerresheim – you’re about 20 minutes from Düsseldorf’s city center, but you get to experience what the city actually feels like when it’s not performing for visitors. I mean, there’s a fantastic bakery just down the street where I grabbed coffee every morning, and the whole area has this lived-in authenticity that you miss when you’re staying right in the Altstadt with all the other travelers. The rooms at the Concorde are exactly what you’d expect from a solid 3-star – clean, comfortable beds, decent-sized bathrooms, nothing fancy but everything works. The WiFi was reliable (always my first test), and honestly, the shower pressure was better than some 4-star places I’ve stayed at. One small thing – the walls aren’t super thick, so if you’re a light sleeper, maybe pack earplugs, though it’s generally pretty quiet since you’re not on a main thoroughfare.

What really sold me on this place was how it struck that sweet spot between being affordable and actually pleasant to stay at. The 7.5 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow you away with luxury amenities, but it delivers on the basics without any unpleasant surprises. Parking was easy, which if you’ve ever tried to park in central Düsseldorf, you’ll appreciate. The breakfast was typical German hotel fare – good bread, cold cuts, decent coffee – nothing Instagram-worthy but it gets you going for the day. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I wanted to explore more of Düsseldorf’s residential side or if I was traveling on business and needed somewhere reliable without the tourist markup. It’s the kind of place where you check in, sleep well, and check out feeling like you got exactly what you paid for – which, honestly, is rarer than it should be these days.

  • Relaxed and comfortable – Zoe from United Kingdom – 1 October 2024 (9/10)

It was clean, spacious and had its own door so no need to go through the hotel.

What could be improved: The door was very loud when opening and closing but this was minor detail.

  • Pleasant – Magdalena from United Kingdom – 5 April 2024 (6/10)

Large rooms despite being a single bed, warm, equipped with all the necessities. Easy check in and check-out. Clear instructions on getting in after the reception is closed.

What could be improved: A kettle would be nice or one or two bottles of still water. The interior looks a bit formal, but otherwise there's nothing wrong about this place.

  • Floor carpet for the bathroom – Febby from Germany – 12 November 2023 (7/10)

The room was clean , quite and good transport connections.

What could be improved: The bathroom has no matt or something to step on after bathing or using the toilet. Twe are jn Winter and the floor was cold , more especially after bathing. I thought that they must be a small freezer and a water cooker to make tea . A bottle of water was there.
