The name is absolutely terrible – “Great Location Airport Exhibition Center Downtown” sounds like someone fed keywords into a machine – but honestly, they’re not wrong about the location part. I stumbled across this 3-star spot on Mündelheimer Weg in Lichtenbroich, and while it’s not exactly downtown Düsseldorf (more like a solid 15-minute tram ride), it actually works really well if you know what you’re getting into.

The thing is, Lichtenbroich gets written off by a lot of travelers because it’s not the Altstadt with all the breweries and tourist stuff, but I mean, that’s kind of the point. You’re staying in an actual neighborhood where people live and work, and the hotel sits right in this sweet spot where you can catch the U79 tram line without much hassle. The walk to the nearest stop is maybe three minutes, four if you’re dragging a heavy suitcase. What really surprised me was how quiet it gets at night – you’d think being somewhat close to the airport would mean constant plane noise, but the flight paths don’t really go over this area. I slept better here than I did at some fancy place right in the city center last year.

The staff clearly gives a damn, which you can tell from little things like actually remembering your name at checkout and knowing the tram schedules off the top of their heads. The building itself is pretty standard – nothing fancy, but everything works properly and the rooms are bigger than you’d expect for the price point. There’s this small breakfast area that smells like proper coffee in the mornings (not that watery hotel stuff), and they’ve got local newspapers laid out, which I appreciated. Parking is straightforward too – none of that cramped underground garage nonsense where you’re worried about scraping your rental car. If you’re coming for business around the Messe exhibition center, you’re looking at maybe a 10-minute drive, and honestly, having stayed closer to the fairgrounds before, this is way better. Those hotels jack up their prices during trade shows and you’re stuck eating overpriced convention food, but from here you can actually walk to some decent restaurants along Mündelheimer Weg or hop on the tram to explore properly. The 9-star rating makes sense when you consider what you’re paying versus what you get – it’s not luxury, but it’s solid, reliable, and the kind of place where everything just works without any drama.
